My lady friend received an e-mail from Fed Ex saying their driver tried to deliver a package and no one was home so he returned it to the post office??? Please upload or is it download for details on picking it up. She was using my laptop and clicked on the attachment. I was starting to question why Fed Ex would use the Post Office but it was too late. A box opened in the middle of the screen. It said WIN 7 Defender and said I had a Virus attacking my computer. Well no kidding! It then offered to clean and protect my computer for some money. It blocked the screen so I restarted and found I could not go on the internet. Everytime I made a keystroke it reappeared. I called my tech support and was told to take it to the store and hope it could be fixed. We also called Fedex and they are aware of it too. After hours of making calls, someone taught me how to restore this to how it was yesterday. I never thought these things would get me. Live and learn. Have a nice day.

Don't believe the marketing hype. Mac's are more vulnerable to virues then windows based systems. The only reason why Windows computers get attacked more is because there a bigger segment of the market. Think about it your trying to extort money or steal information do you hit the 15% of the market are the 70% of the market.

In fact I have read several places that Mac's have more exploits then Window's based computers. The reason for this is since Mac's are attacked far less it takes them far longer to be patched if they get patched at all.

I have a degree in puters and did the Microsoft networking thing for 13years. :) For personal use I gave up Windows for Linux and loved it. Mac OS X is nothing more than Unix with a pretty user interface on it. I prefer the Mac over Windows for how table it is. No crashes, no locking up, no disk defragmenting, etc. Unix runs in a user account mode at all times and on the Mac you have to enter a password just to change the screen size or mouse pointer.....I like that. I use to be a geek. LOL

That Trojan horse of a scam has been around awhile and it pops up in my spam folder weekly. The other variation is the one from UPS asking for address particulars. It takes time but by restoring the computer to a previous date usually works.
Just be thankful you didn't get the dreaded BSOD.....{blue screen of death}

I've been getting a bunch of these after communicating with a vendor. I suspect his computer has the bug and he has his email set up to automatically add you to his Windows address book. I do not use the WAB because it is the first thing a virus or Trojan looks for.

How did fed-ex get your lady friends e-mail? The driver would have left a note on your door.I've gotten e-mails like that many times.I never open e-mails,unless there are from a friend. Got a virus once from a friends e-mail. I run daily/hourly virus scans on my computer..l

Received that same message last week. Deleted it right away. We all need to be paranoid when it comes to the Internet. The delete button is your best friend. Thanks for the warning, I'm sure it will save some folks from finding out the hard way.

I get that spoof as well as other variants. Don't ever open a file that comes with them or you'll get a nasty virus, as op has stated.

There should be a particularly harsh punishment for those that use such devious methods to steal from us. Bring back the town square stocks.

That one showed up in my spam folder this morning...I sincerely hope there is a special lower level of hell reserved for those who create computer viruses and circulate them.

I never open a link any more that I get in e-mails, even if I get them from someone I know. Well, if my wife sends me a YouTube video to watch (which she frequently does) I will do that, but otherwise I will go to the site directly. If I can't do that, then I won't open the link, period. Too much junk out there, even from someone you know, to take a chance.

I got the same email last week and called FedEX to make sure. They said it was a scam and to delete it. If you get the message check out the way they screw up English in the post. My wife posted a warning about it on her Facebook account and you all may want to do the same. It does look pretty official.
