I can highly recommend Private Internet Access (PIA). Servers located just about everywhere, no logs, verified by third-party auditors, and compatible with OpenVPN standards so you can configure your primary router to use it (and therefore every device in your entire home is routed through the VPN with no additional hassles). Using military-grade 256-bit AES encryption, I'm still getting 110-120Mbps throughput, too. All this for less than $3 per month...

I have used VPN services since I retired, so about eight years now. I have used Nord VPN, Strong VPN, and Hotspot Shield VPN. For a while I maintained two subscriptions simultaneously, but currently use Strong VPN only.
My main purpose in using a VPN service is to watch the domestic version of US streaming services while in Japan. I have no need to connect to my financial institutions while traveling, but would try to use a VPN if I were to do so from, say, an airplane, airport or hotel. From home, I typically just connect straight to financial institutions which, once connected, say the connection is secure.
I am curious why others use VPN services, if they use them only occasionally or 24/7, and why.
(When I was working, my company required us to use its proprietary, I assume, VPN, whenever offsite and connecting to the company’s internal site or company email, but as a private individual I son’t worry about the security of my typical communications that much.)

Heard Netflix wouldn't work with a VPN, called them and they confirmed they'll kill your account if you're running a VPN.
Doesn't sound right to me.
Anyone have it set up on your router instead of PC?

I know you can share your Netflix account with one person.
May have something to do with Netflix in another country having different stuff to stream?

I live stream a news channel I like and the stream requires a VPN.

This is the one I use. I originally got it for travel, but I've been using it for everything. Haven't set it up with my router; I may have to look into that.
I don't use a VPN (but am interested in learning about the options). Others I worked with used VPNs so they could access blocked content at work. No, not for nefarious reasons, the company was just overly aggressive with their baby-sitting and was blocking access to sites that were needed to do research.
What you heard is incorrect. So is what Netflix told you.
The only reason I can see to use a VPN with Netflix is to access content not licensed or permitted where you want to receive it. E.g, you want to watch Last Tango in Paris in Kuala Lumpur.
I do think not a good idea to confront Netflix about it. They are obligated to respect licensing rights and local government authorities. Best to fly under the radar.

I don't want to do anything shady with Netflix, just heard it wouldn't work thru a VPN.
Been going nuts trying to get one of my laptops running Ubuntu converted back to Windows.
Also heard the same service wouldn't work on a Windows and Linux platform?
Y'all that are running a VPN, did you set it up yourself? Much of a hassle?
Private Internet Access (PIA) offers client applications for both Windows AND Linux, along with an easy to use app for Android also. I think Mac and iOS are also covered. The easiest way to install a VPN is to just configure it on the router so that everything in the house goes on the internet through the VPN by default. It's a relatively straight forward process and, yes, you can do it yourself.
When I'm away from the house, the apps for Android and Windows work very well.

I use Nord, for when I’m south of the border.One of my banks won’t let me log in if I’m using it (go figure), but I haven’t tried any other VPN.
