I took my new VTAC 9mm to the range today. I fired over 150 rounds of various ammunition with zero failures. The pistol preformed prefectly.

Now the bad news...the fiber optic insert on the front sight fell out at round 22. This of course will be going back to S&W for repair.

I also found that after less than thirty presentations from my lined Safariland 6378 holster, that the high points on the slide began to show wear. This too is not acceptable.

I'll follow up when I hear from S&W.

I thought my vtac showed signs of instant wear on the slide as well. There were dark marks and edges that looked polished as if the finish was worn off. I wiped it down really well with clp and it looks like new. Works for me every time and the finish still looks great. Hope this helps. Let us know about your sight too.

VTAC 9mm

I just hit the 3,000 round mark on mine and its been flawless in function and it seems to get more accurate every time i shoot it. Its a great gun

The saga continues...I got my VTAC back from S&W repair shop two days ago. I went to the range today, and at approximately round 35, the front sight fiber optic fell out AGAIN. Obviously I am NOT a happy camper!

I like the VTAC sights, they are great as long as they stay in place, but so far that doesn't seem to be happening. In principle, they are a great set of combat sights, but their workmanship seems to be totally unreliable.

I'll be sending the pistol back to S&W again, and I am going to demand they install a set of the Trijicon HD night sights. My pistol won't be a true VTAC anymore, but it will have a set of sights that won't fall off.

Other than the sight issues, the pistol is preforming prefectly! I now have approximately 300 rounds down range, and have yet to have a malfunction.

I'll keep you posted...

I was just going to recommend changing to those sights they are the best part about my pro series!

The VTAC sight fiber optic rod may be held in place differently, but we used to heat the rod ends (to swell them) on the Dawson fiber optic sights to hold them in place on our IPSC guns. It worked like a champ.

I got my M&P VTAC back today from it's second return to the factory for the sight repair. I gave customer service thre recommendations to fix my problem. New pistol, new slide and VTAC sights, or a blue slide with Trijicon HD night sights.

What I got back today was my pistol and slide, with a standard set of night sights on it. So since S&W can't seem to make the VTAC sights stay together, they just put a standard set of night sights on my pistol. This was not a fix I wanted for my pistol. I guess thats the best S&W Customer Service could come up with. Totally shabby if you ask me!

So in other words, I paid a premium price for a M&P with standard night sights in FDE. NOT worth the money!!

VTAC issues

Vegasgunhand,

I have a new Vtac .40 and a 5'Pro .9mm both lost the fiber optic out of the front sight,it occurred around 40-50 rounds on the Vtac and around 100 on the Pro model. I called Smith over 2 weeks ago and spoke with customer service I requested replacement sights and the gentleman told me it could be weeks or months before they would have replacements in stock. He then
charged me full retail for 2 spare magazines for my guns. I told him I was happy with the pistols but I needed to be able to trust the pistols and I needed my sights to be reliable. He said he would add me to the list for replacement sights.
Good luck, my experience with Smith's customer service has been less then satisfactory.
