Walked out of Cabela's agin

Had a similar situation recently. Large Outdoors store w/big gun dept, 2 clerks working the counter on a busy Saturday, several time consuming transactions ahead of me, such is life. I was next, caught the eye of the clerk just finishing up w/customer and mouthed the words I'm next to him which he acknowledged w/a nod.
A guy butts in, grabs the clerk to get a gun on hold. 8-10 people around waiting, I protest LOUDLY I'm next, clerk responds he'll be w/me shortly. I was so po'd I walked out.
While driving home I called the store and told the operator I wanted to go as high up the food chain as possible. Got a manager who listened to me, agreed completely that my treatment was lousy, and took the clerk's name. He asked for my address, a couple days later I got a $25 gift cert in the mail.
A week or so later I was in the store, that clerk and I made eye contact, I asked him if he remembered me, he said yes. I told him How I'd complained, he told me he'd heard about it but still thought he'd treated me fine. I went on to tell him how his behavior had cost his employer $25. Childish on my part, being a little kid is fun at times.

That gun store wouldn't be in Kittery would it?

I bought a Taurus revolver at the Cabela's in Lacey during March after waiting with my number for over an hour. I was with 2 other guys and if we had seen that we would have walked out empty-handed. Unfortunately I do put up with some Cabela "stuff" because I have their VISA card which turns their offerings into good buys.

Bill,
A stones throw from 95, a hop skip and a jump from Portsmouth. Can't say problem is entirely w/the store, as many have pointed out, good customer service is fading from our culture.
Most of the clerks behind the counter at this store are retired from a career. From what I can see they enjoy involvement w/firearms and a chance to cherry-pick incoming guns at an employee discounted price. Some tend to be independent w/self opinions a bit larger than life.
There are a few very good people I look to for service there, my mistake was to go in there on a rainy Sat afternoon.
I was quite surprised at the quality of the manager who fielded my complaint, he'd had some training somewhere. Didn't argue w/me, agreed treatment I'd gotten was substandard .... I made the phone call to vent, hard to yell at someone who's agreeing w/you completely and looking to do you right.
I've had no problem pointing out to these folks that 35miles north on 95 there's a new player, Cabelas, just looking for local customers.
Good Luck, Kevin

If the store is busy, taking a number at least brings some order to who is supposed to be next. If I am in line waiting and another customer is short on time, I let him/her go ahead of me. If the person is trying to "bully" their way ahead, I simpley have my wife beat the **** out of this person.

From the sounds of it, I am going to have a hard time ever walking into a Cabelas let alone walking out. Taking a number is for the DMV and the deli at a supermarket, not a gunshop.

How about this-If you want a new weapon, you read and research it in gun mags, on here-on line, etc. When you find a few prospects that you would consider, you go to stand in line, big bucks gun store and look at them-ask questions-whatever. When you have made a decision as to the specific gun you want to the last detail, you locate a source for them-distributor-manufacturer, etc. Then you go to a dealer in your area and ask him what he would need for that specific gun, delivered, and all, letting him know you have the gun already located for him. Ask more than one guy, there is a list by zip code available on gunbroker. By the way-someone on gunbroker may be a source your dealer can obtain the item from. Make the best deal you can. Many dealers realize that there are savvy folks that they can deal with quickly and make a few bucks. You are going to buy it from somebody-might as well be them (?). Flapjack.

I would have loudly told him to take a number like the rest of us.

This here is right on. If more people spoke up some folks MIGHT get the point. I don't tolerate such rudeness and I speak up. I get dirty looks but do I care? What do you think?

And there are times when I will give the clerk a piece of my mind for serving the person that cut in front of me.

In my place of business you WILL wait your turn. If you walk in the door talking on your phone because your too stupid to read the sign on the front door that expressly forbids doing so, you don't get served! If you cut in line you get ignored until it's your turn.

I take great delite in pissing off these type of people.;)

If I am looking for a brand new gun(and my go to LGS does not have it in stock), I go to the Big Box Stores (call first to see if they have it) and some other LGS that I do not like. I check the gun out and if I like it I will have my favorite local, local guy order it for me for way less money.:D

I had a clerk interrupt waiting on me take a phone call-which is OK as long as he says something to the effect of "Please hold while I finish with this customer-or let me get someone to help you as I am with a customer' When he starts to wait on the phone caller, and I start to say something and he puts a finger up-well that's when I get LOUD!!!!!
and I mean LOUD. Unless the phone is within reach at which time I have been known to disconnect it for him.
I am one of the unwashed masses the retailers have to deal with. But I also tell them when they gave me too much change and normally tip waitresses and waiters at least 20% and will take a number and wait my turn. But I will not abide rtudness and will speak up.

My wife has been told by many that once the filter is turned off, it is pretty near impossible to turn it back on so she mostly lets me out by myself :D

Well, update time:

It has been a full workweek as of today. I have received no response from anyone at Cabela's. Of course, that may be only natural as I was complaining about something I witnessed, not something that happened to me. So, they really owe me no response.

I will inform their C/S to check out these web responses but, somehow, I don't think they really care.
