Local Wal-mart had some 3-11/8-71/2 target loads in 4 box cartons, came to $7.36 before tax...3 carton limit..probably not much higher than handloads with component prices today,,,maybe there is hope?

That is about the hardest kicking load of that performance! Is OK in a semi-auto but in an Over/Under in warm weather, you'll see a bruise in 3 days after 125! The 20 gauge equivalent were very standable compared to field loads.

I have 75 of the 12 gauge 1 1/8 #7.5's 3 DE, left over from the 90's! I have much better ammo to shoot!

WOW, had no idea of that...they also had higher velocity ones, I thought the 1200 fps would be OK..?? I did at one time buy some 3 1/4 winchester heavy field loads and they kick like the devil....

3-1 1/8 @ 1200fps is what I'm now shooting. I have 4 flats left and that load is about my limit for recoil. I prefer 2 3/4-1 1/8 @ 1145fps. I buy the 3 dram equiv. load when I can't get the 2 3/4 load. I'm glad to see the lower price on shot shells. Maybe better days are on the way. Larry

My 2 preferred Sporting Clays loads are 2 3/4" 1 oz. 1300 fps & 2 3/4 7/8 oz 1275 fps. The 1 oz load is AA Super Sport. The 7/8 load, I came across one flat of Federal Paper Cowboy Action loads in the late 90' or early 00's. I found a matching load for AA hulls using Tightwad. It works my 390 Golden Clays and is mild in everything else. The pattern is uniform with Modified and Improved Modified chokes.

Years ago WM sold a Federal 12 gauge 2 3/4", 7/8oz @ 1400fps and a 20 gauge 2 3/4", 3/4 oz at 1400fps. Using IM and F chokes and 7.5 shot, these were great for Sporting Clays ay longer yardages. But extremely loud (even with muffs and foam plugs!) I have never been able to duplicate these shells. The 1275 load is a great training load due to very low recoil, yet it smokes clay birds!

Cowboy Action typically shoots around one box (25) a day. Skeet, Trap, and Sport Clays, you can shoot up to 100 rounds an hour, for as long as you want or can stand! So Recoil matters!

recoil sure does matter, even more when you're old(late 60's)! these days I am mostly a 50 rd. per day shooter, so it wont be an issue..I used to see Federal 1145 fps target loads around here, but its been a few years now...hope to find some clay dot or clays this summer...I'm real low on Red dot
