I've been using the Federal Bulk Pack 36 grain loads from Wal-Mart and have had quite a few failure to ejects. Most are stove pipe, but some casings drop back into the action and get jammed behind the extractor. Is this common with this ammo? I have about 250 rounds through the gun. Thanks

I've put about 750 through my gun and only had 2 FTE's I think most people seem to think that the Federal bulk is one of the ammo types the 15-22 likes best.

There is a thread and a link on here to a video on how to adjust your ejector... takes a few seconds and the problem is solved

Belt fed if the extractor cant grap the rim tight no matter hom much bending of the ejector will make it correct, been there done that.

Take in load you're clip up and POINT IN A SAFE DIRECTION and start pulling the charge handle back in forth(cycle) and see what rounds eject fine and the ones that dont, and measure the rim diameters from the good ones to the bad ones and you will see the smaller rim diameters are the problem.

as all the rounds should come out flying even when not fired.

Probably has nothing to do with the ammo. Most people say they run Fed Bulk with no problems.

My 15-22 is currently back at S&W for repairs for the same exact problem. Mine would FTE with EVERY ammo I tried, and I tried a bunch. I tried the ejector fix and it only made a slight difference. My gun did not have the blue springs, maybe that's the problem. If you don't have the blue springs and or you have adjusted the ejector and you are still having problems you will need to send it in for repairs.

The good news is that almost everybody reports near flawless operation after it has been repaired. I should have mine back within the next week and I'll update my thread for those who are interested.

Might jus need a tweak
Fed Ammo has the best luck with our 15-22's
Never had a FTE with it after 700 rounds now

well just got back firing the rifle after i messed with the extractor to hold the rim better (other post i made)

Ammo

Fedral bulk brown box had 1 FTE out of 25

Fedral bulk blue box had 1 FTE out of 25

winchester bulk 333 Had 1 FTE out of 25

Remington Subsonic 100 pack 0 FTE out of 25

didnt try the winchester super X tins as they are my small game ammo and everyone is out right now.

this is very good for this rifle as before every other round would FTE. if you read my link i posted above, me and a friend got two of these rifles at the same time mine has no problems at all. both do not have blue springs ect (updated stuff)

loaded mag and didnt pay attention how they ended up in it, as with my rifle i have never ran into that problem.

I'm also a member of the Federal bulk Wallyworld ammo club. My 15-22 runs it through with no problems; same with Winchester 333 bulks.

I have shot a full box of federal 550 champion (blue box) i bought from cabelas with no issues at all. My next box will be wally worlds red/brown box federal 550.

I have also shot through about 400 rounds of American Eagle, had a couple of duds in those.

Sub95 --

I read your post on the problem. Too tall extractor pin? Where's the thread on the solution?

Thanks,

I have well over 3,000 rounds of Federal Bulk through my 15-22. I use it exclusively and the rifle just hums along on it. The only issues I had with the gun's operation solved itself in the first 100 or so rounds. It has operated flawlessly since.

Like a lot of other 15-22 owners, I've tried lots of different ammo in my gun and the Walmart Federals work best. I'd say it's not the ammo.

I agree that the ammo is not the problem. Have been using mostly Federal bulk but have used some CCI as well. I was having some FTE with all but my most recent tweak to the ejector seems to have resolved my problem. I totally agree with the Youtube video on adjusting the ejector inward but also suggest an adjustment upward if needed. The ejector must be as close to the bolt as possible without actually touching it in both orientations. In this position it is able to catch the spent casings properly and eject them. Once I adjusted mine the casing seemed to fly up and out versus downward.

I read one of the comments above about making sure the extractor holds the case tightly. Not really sure how this would help since the casing itself is pushing back the bolt, the bolt is not pulling the casing out of the chamber, when fired. Any thoughts?

If the case rim is not held in tight in the bolt it will not hit the ejector pin correctly and it will FTE the two have to work together. you might think when you shoot the round it has enough force to hold it against the bolt and hit the ejector pin just right and come out like it should, nope it dont thats why they have a extractor pin to make sure everything lines up correctly so the case will come out and not FTE.

first pic is me just pulling the charge handle back, case is only held by the extractor pin.

second pic is same as the above except the ejector pin hitting the case wanting to come up and out.
