My wife and I came down out of the mountains today for our monthly grocery stock up trip.
We went to Walmart and strolled on back to check on ammo. We expected to find a no handgun ammo case and were pleasantly surprised to see several boxes of .38 special. I wanted to buy all they'd give me but my wife (ever the voice of reason) reminded me that we're living on a very tight budget. One 100 round box of .38 special 130 grain fmj WWB was $40.57. A little higher than before but still not a bad price. I just hope they still have it next time we go.

Snubbyfan, you REALLY need to consider reloading. Even if you're using a 40 dollar Lee Hand Press that only lets you produce 30 rounds per hour.

Recently Extreme bullets has been selling 125 grain plated flat points in 38 special for 78 dollars per 1000, or 7.8 cents each. Primers have gotten a bit spendy but you can now find them for about 40 dollars per thousand. Powder cost for a 38 special will run between 2 and 3 cents per round depending on your powder choice. As for the cost of cases, hit the local gun shows and you should be able to find them for 10-15 cents each. Figure on getting 50 to 75 reloads on a 38 special case and you can see the cost for cases is not much at all. BTW, that's a big plus for the low pressure of the 38 special, cases last going on forever. So, in the long run you can reload the 38 special using a plated bullet for between 14 and 15 cents per round. Plus, you don't ever have to wonder if you'll find some at Walmart.

Went into the local Wally World store Saturday and found a lot of ammo including .22 LR the only problem was the price, it sure went up!

I've been thinkin' about doing just that, I've already got a pickle jar full of brass cases. I just need to scrape enough pennies together to get supplies and equipment.
I've been selling leather products to raise money but it seems like I always find a new and innovative leatherworking tool, product or type of leather I can't possibly live without and there go my profits.

I am lucky. I don't have to look for pistol ammo at my local Walmart, because in the past year they have not had any. Same goes for 22RF. They have a couple of boxes of some kind of rifle ammo, 30-30 I think. They have tons of shotgun ammo. Unfortunately it is all steel and all expensive.

Charles Town WM is hit or miss last time I was there they only had .40 and .9 and I have enough for now, that was a couple day's ago. You need to get there about 7:00 - 8:00 pm forgot which one, about when they bring it out. Plenty of AR's in the rack though.
