Walther CCP - and you say?

I am being given the opportunity to acquire a slightly used Walther CCP. Nice gun, etc., yadda blah - but what do YOU think of this gun?

Not that I actually need it, of course, but that is hardly relevant.....

I considered a CCP when looking for a range gun that my adult daughter would like to use.

I search the internet for "CCP pros and cons"; then, bought a tungsten gray Walther PPQ. Hopefully, the CCP problems have been resolved by now.

I got to fire one mag through the PPQ before she claimed it for her own as an early birthday present.

The CCP feels good in the hand, is easy to rack, is easily concealed, and is softer shooting. The CCP is also a pain in the *** to take down and requires a special tool, doesn't have a great trigger, gets hot pretty quickly because of the gas system, and is the width of a double stack but uses single stack magazines.

I think the CCP's problems were solved via a recall and the M2 version but the recall in re a drop-and-go-off issue doesn't bother me much. I haven't dropped a gun since I was a toddler playing with cap pistols. I might get the tool for takedown but I won't be taking the gun down if I get it. I have no patience for filed stripping handguns; I used to enjoy that, I do not any longer, and I can clean them easily enough without taking them apart.

It feels like it is the same size as my CS-9. I will have to compare them.

Getting hot shouldn't be an issue except at the range and if I acquire it then it can easily be a shot-a-little-carried-a-lot gun like a lightweight J frame.

Personally, I don't care for it. The aesthetics are nonexistent as far as I'm concerned, it's a single stack in spite of having a somewhat chunky grip, and the M1 Series looks like a pain to take down.

If you want a single stack 9mm Walther, then the PPS is a much better option. Infinity better aesthetics, slimmer profile/smaller size, easier takedown, and they going for around $350 brand new right now. (Buds has the PPS M2 LE with Night Sights and 3 mags on sale for $339 right now.)

I don't think you'll find a better feeling gun and they sure shoot accurately. The takedown is what it is. It's more difficult than glocks or all the knock offs but it isn't bad if you pay attention to what you're doing. With all the cryers about how difficult it is to take down makes me wonder how they would have survived back in the days of field striping a government model. Fwiw, the new CCP M2 filed strips more easily.

A lot of folk gripe about the CCP takedown. Maybe having the use of both hands is the problem.
