Want a 2 1/2" model 66 or 19.

I have a 2 1/2 66-5 and I absolutely love it. The pinned and recessed thing is nice, but is not a must have for me. I sure as hell won't pay the premium some are asking to have it, that's for sure.

To a collector buying a safe queen, pinned and recessed is important. To the typical guy buying a carry piece or shooter, it isn't. While we seem to be going through a short-barrel craze right now, you can find nice 2-1/2" Model 66s for sensible prices if you look long enough.

Earlier this year, I thought that I might like to have a 2-1/2" Model 66 to add to my 4" and 6" but the gun would be purchased just to add to the family, so to speak, as I'm not a huge fan of snubbies. So I watched GunBroker and GunsAmerica and watched several sell for as much as $650. Then perhaps six months later, I came across the one below with an opening bid of $416. When there was just a few hours left in the auction, I placed that bid, fully expecting to be outbid in a heartbeat. But no other bids were placed, so that's what I paid for it.

I believe the Pachmayr grips may have detracted from its appeal and the seller described it as being in "average" condition, which may have deterred some bidders. It looked good to me in his photos (which are two of the ones below) and it turned out to be as perfect as a gun can be. Only a light turn line suggests it was ever fired and the virgin sideplate screw slots offer calming reinforcement that no amateur gunsmithing would be found inside.

I now have a pair of Ahrends retro combats on it, as seen in the photo of my small Model 66 collection.

Bobchap,
the 2-1/2 is a real nice pc. The P&R should be a little more of a premium in some circles but it really must be a safe queen for that. Just my 2cents.

If you are looking for a shooter grade that is nice there was one in the pawn shop I was in yesterday when I bought a 3" RB 65. If intrested
pm me and Ill provide the info. Oh I have no affiliation with the shop other then ounce in a while you can find a really really good deal there.

Would you pay more for a pinned and recessed?

As I'm a shooter not a collector I would only pay a small premium for a shooter grade P&R model.

In my far from expert Opinion if you want one get it soon as the prices have risen anywhere from $50.00 - $100.00 in the last 18 months, and I don't seeing them going down anytime soon. It's the law of supply and demand.

As a SHOOTER/collector I always keep an eye out for a good deal. At a huge gun show, in the Title II building, I found this little bon-bon. Among all of this vendor's MG42 guns and parts was this stainless snubbie. I asked what he wanted for it. He said it was a PRIVATE SALE so he HAD to get $375. I asked if he would go $350. He held firm. So I bought it anyway.

It is a GREAT shooter, and a minor collectable. It came with the OEM checkered magnas. I added the Tyler-T & smoothies.

1 Old 311,
Between you and Allen-frame I now know where all these have gone...great collection.

In my area, south of Atlanta, these M19 and M66 snub noses have really jumped in value. I always keep my eyes out for another one, and they are few and really high right now. While I do not have the collection that 1 Old 311 and Allen Frame have, I do have three.

Great condition. Is the 'pinto' factory? Also is the cylinder stamped with the N? Thanks
