ISRA Alert:
WARNING – AVOID CHICAGO AS A VACATION DESTINATION

The ISRA is warning its members to think twice about selecting Chicago as a vacation destination this summer. This warning was issued in response to a recent dramatic upswing in violent crime in the windy city. Most notably is a spate of so-called “flash mob” attacks where as many as two dozen young men ambush and savagely beat their victims before robbing them of their valuables. One recent flash mob victim was a 68 year-old man.

The bulk of the flash mob attacks have taken place on Chicago’s near north side and Gold Coast areas to include North Avenue Beach and the Magnificent Mile. The attack locations are within the general vicinity of tourist attractions including Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Millennium Park.

Thus far, the Chicago Police Department has had little luck controlling these flash mobs with only 4 participants having been apprehended. This ability to confound the police stems from the very nature of flash mobbing. Participants either get a text message on their smart phone or receive a “tweet” on a social networking site telling them where to show up and how to behave – with the specified behavior usually involving larceny or assault. Flash mob participants arrive at the site at a particular time and, after committing the specified crimes, scatter before police can arrive. The sheer number of flash mob participants overpowers the victims – rendering them helpless against the mob.

As most of our readers know, the most effective defense a victim could muster against a flash mob would be for the victim to draw a concealed firearm. As most of our readers also know, Illinois is one of only two states in the nation that deny citizens the right to carry defensive firearms.

The ISRA supported House Bill 148 in the most recent legislative session. Under the provisions of HB148, qualified citizens would be permitted to carry defensive firearms to protect themselves and their families from the type of violent crimes perpetrated by flash mobs. Ironically, it was the Chicago delegation of legislators that arranged for the defeat of HB148 when the bill came up for a vote.

Through their baseless opposition to legislation such as HB148, the Chicago delegation has provided flash mobs and other criminals the upper hand. As we have seen in recent days, Chicago’s criminal element is taking full advantage of having the upper hand. There is no reason to believe that there will be a happy ending to the flash mobs’ reign of terror. Nobody should be surprised that, before the summer is over, a flash mob has engaged in a gang-rape or even a murder of an innocent civilian.

Again, the ISRA is urging readers to reconsider plans to vacation in Chicago this summer. Indications are that vacationing in Chicago will place readers and their families at high risk of being victimized by violent criminals – including flash mobs. This risk is heightened greatly because law-abiding citizens cannot carry firearms to protect themselves from violent criminals.

:( Things are getting bad in some parts of the country, even in the south. No one seems to want to do any thing about it. I am 69 years old and worry about being a target for people that want to do rob me. They know I can't win a fight with them. I hope they know they could die for trying. You would think they would care more about them selves than they do. I hope and pray it never comes to a time that I would have to use deadly force. It would be hard to live with. Don

I won't go into Chicago unless I have no other choice; and I live 45 miles from there.

I have been following this on the news and it's my fear that there will be a Bernard Goetz type of incedent with someone protecting themselves and shooting one or two of these "kids". Then the stuff will hit the fan and it will be all about some vigalante going after some poor down on his luck kid who was trying to turn his life around.

I'm in Indiana but 3 miles from Illinois. The OP's info has been on the news all week. It coinsides with a week long early in the season temperature rise. Beaches in Chicago opened on Memorial Day. North Ave. beach (downtown) was closed down and the public was kicked out about 3 pm Monday. The story was that several heat related cases on the beach couldn't be reached by emergency crews because of the thousands in the way. The truth is an immense crowd or rowdies was bordering on riot. The flash thing is a new term for "wilding". Some of these incidents have occurred in broad daylight, close to downtown. Chicago's got a new Mayor and he's got a new head of the police dept.. There's a whole new batch of teenage "poor kids" on the loose there. There's a lot of great museums and the aquarium, and planetarium in Chicago. I would not take a family there anymore. If you do run into trouble no one will help you.

chicago

I did not leave anything in CHICAGO the last time I was their so I have no need to go back their.Like J.C.MACK I live within 3 mi. of CHICAGO have not been in the state for 10 yrs.I C. Carry and don't break their law . I just wish they would quit breaking the 2nd. amendment.

"Flash mob" refers to something else in most other parts of the nation..
using social media via mobile phones entire choirs, dance troops and other forms of entertainment spring a usually very impressive display of talent and organization.
I can see how the system may be abused to serve as a thugs method as well .... its rather a shame they'd muck it up this way.

Youtube "Flash Mob" and take a look at some of what the civilized have done with it.

Beautiful! Just when you start thinking all is lost there's a glimmer of hope isn't there? Thank you Sir, great post.

Bob

... and the video is probably rather lacking in terms of just how stunning the performance was. I just love the look on that boys face when the soprano part came in, He'd have wept if he knew it was ok.

The media and the liberal sheeple won't like it, but we need to go back to the days of "hats and bats" when it comes to these low life scum.

Hats and bats, I always thought that was just an NYPD term, I am weird and have a fascination with police jargon. I guess that term is a country wide thing.

In the 1980's that same scenario was called "Wilding" in NYC.

I don't see how the city will handle it. The city council is desperate to not discourage what tourism is left. The new head of the Police Dept. is refering to the attacks (another one on a bus last night) as "multiple offender offenses" rather than anything "mob", or certainly not "wilding" These kids are gandsters in training. No guns yet. They don't need them since 3-4 can overwhelm anybody without a weapon. These "kids" aren't interested in jobs, if there where any available. There's a definite root core of these kids. They come from the homes that could care less about them. I hope Chicago tourism takes a real shot in the shorts. Maybe the people there will wake up when it hurts them in the wallet. Or maybe not.

It's truly a sad, sad state of gun affairs here in Illinois.

No hope on the horizon either. Even though my wife graduated high school in Chicago ~ we visit there as SELDOM as possible.

Where is Paul Kersey when you need him? Or maybe Chicago PD could run some decoy operations, meet force with overwhelming counterforce. That might discourage the survivors.

I live 30 miles west of Chicago and go downtown a few times a year along the lakefront, Michigan Ave., and the museums. Like any other big city, you have to be alert and watch what is going on around you. Don't stay in Millenium Park past dark, and if you decide to walk back to the train station, well...don't keep your head glued down at the ground, buried in your iPad, or walk around absent-mindedly on your iPhone.

That being said, it is disconcerting that the city I love has taken a lax approach at dealing with this issue -- one of the latest comments by one city official being something like "in cities people get mugged and sometimes it's in good neighborhoods."

Will I stop going downtown? No. It is still a great place to visit, and I don't think this will have a huge impact on tourism or conventions, etc. The city has too much too offer. Media focus has brought the matter to public attention (it supposedly was happening months before, but got very little press), and some sort of official response. Now the media has moved onto to the next biggest issue.

Be safe, be alert. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Now if we could only get current with our gun laws in IL...
