I like to ask has any one sent in a gun that needed repair service and was not the original owner?
I am looking at a 2 year old Shield some one I know wants to sell it may have a round count some were near 500 rounds .
I here from some reviews the safety on early model may en-gauged when re-holstering any pro or cons on the safety subject I should be aware about before buying the gun??

The warranty technically applies to the original owner. The trick is simply this - do not volunteer to S&W that you are not the original owner as they will not usually ask. If there is a problem with the pistol, call S&W and request a shipping label for a warranty repair and leave it at that.

My experience is that with a recall S&W will perform the recall work regardless. I sent in a 669 last year that I inherited for evaluation to see if the old 669/469 safety recall applied. I explained I inherited the pistol and wasn't sure if the recall applied to the problem I was having with the pistol. The pistol was repaired and returned at no charge. But, this was a recall, not a warranty repair.

Ruger didn't care on a third hand pistol that I sent in because it didn't shoot right. They told me the barrel was warped and replaced it at no cost. I told them I was the third owner and it didn't matter to them.

The one time I sent a gun in, they didn't ask for proof that I was the original owner. It was a 442 that had a crack in the bottom of the frame where the barrel screws in.

They called me five days later and told me that the gun was not repairable and they offered me a new 642 at no cost.

I would do as jsbethel suggested.

well I ran the gun this afternoon out of 35 rounds 1 stove pipe or fail to extract using Perfecta 9mm ammo
Speer 124 gr. gold dots she spit them like water no problems
4 mags with the gun $275.00 :Almost forgot the gun did surprise me it had a excellent trigger with no upgrades

I love that Perfecta ammo, 5 of my pistols shoot it quite well :)
Getting hard to find here tho...Wally World is out of stock...

A few years ago I bought a NIB Ruger P85 at a Sheriff's silent auction. I couldn't believe I was the winning bidder!
I called Ruger about it and they stated it had not been through the recall process. They paid shipping there and back. They fixed it and marked "MKII" on the decocker lever. They didn't charge me anything.
Does S&W honor the lifetime warranty if you own a LEO trade-in 3rd Gen. pistol?

I had to send my Beretta U22 in for repair. Cost me $80 to get it to them but they fixed it for free and sent it back. The trigger bar was slipping off the sear. They replaced all the parts and now the trigger feels like a DA pistol and I am not going to spend another $80. Some people may complain about S&W but I think they are outstanding.

If the original owner filled out the warranty card then that might clue them to the fact that you're not eligible for the service too.
