warranty turn around time

Does the service center acknowledge receipt of a firearm once it has been shiped to them or is the fed ex delivery notification all I have to go bye?

I was initially informed the repair on my 640 Pro Series would not be covered by warranty! I guess they thought actually shooting the revolver somehow voided the warranty. In the end they covered the repair.

I’m currently escalating a similar issue with my 642. Prevously, I’ve always had great service from S&W, so I’m sort of surprised.

My 642 broke the hammer stud. Round count is 2,000 rounds of standard pressure 158 grain FMJ. When I talked to them today, they said it was “normal wear and tear,” not a defect in materials, so wasn’t covered by the lifetime repair policy.

They were very polite and professional. I asked a supervisor how a pistol rated for continous +p ammo, that breaks with that low a round count of standard pressure ammo wouldn’t be defective. He said breakage with just one round can be considered “normal wear and tear” and not covered. He also said they consider any non-US manufactured factory ammo, like Armscore, the same as reloads.

Working on escalating. We’ll see if it goes anywhere.
