Washington State AWB passes Senate, goes to House

Contribute to SAF. Pretty sure that they are leading the charge.

I send anywhere between 6 and 10 emails a day. A set for me, and a set for my partner. lots of pre-written ones from the NRA-ILA, SAF,FPC, state and local subjects.

Even though I live ih Seattle, I feel I must let them know not everyone is willing to toss out free choice for the nebulous idea that we will be better off without choices.

Just woke up from a nap...(I'm 65, retired, and can do that) turns out Inslee told everyone present that it was all just a stupid April Fool's joke.

Said he wasn't blind enough to think that given the results of similar bans in other states, that it was going to do anything other than help fatten everyone's bank account with Bloomberg bucks, destroy FFL's and manufacture's, (as if he hasn't ruined plenty of businesses already with lock downs))burn up taxpayer money, and step on everybody's individual 2A rights even though they have already been upheld by the SCOTUS.

With that and his stupid giggle, he broke out his veto pen and and just scribbled all over the whole document!

...wow I'm going back to sleep! :D

Gee, they actually identified some actual assault rifles in that list. But the M249 isn't actually a rifle it's the SAW. Since it isn't mentioned, are the M60, M240, etc also covered?

The intro features some really, really creative writing.

I'm going to go get a ton of ammo and then go plinking...dang it I should have got an extra recoil spring 'cause I'm gonna wear this one out!

ETA: (as usual) Heck I feel like a passenger aboard the rapidly sinking Luxury Liner the SS: Boy Are You A Sucker! when suddenly Captain Biden and crew announce that life jackets and boats are no longer allowed..."Get a party balloon!" :D ...blub blub blub.

ETA II: Wow you guys, Midway USA shipping has been fantastic! They have been shipping me AR parts almost faster than I could order them!

Well the governor signed that garbage HB 1840 into law today, essentially banning everything.

The weather is finally turning favorable around here and we're scheduled to go plinking in the woods tomorrow.

I didn't see the .22LR shortage coming back then, I didn't see the primer shortage coming now, but by some miracle I foresaw this garbage coming on the horizon.

Oh yea, I ordered some more .223 ammo to feed it. :)

2 lawsuits were filed almost immediately, one state, one federal.

the state one is, among other reasons, because it violates our STATE constitution. Article 1 section 24 "[t]he right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself, or the state, shall not be impaired" Sounds pretty plain language to me.

I foresaw this coming years ago with the Kalifornication of WA. This is not the state it used to be and not in the Country I grew up in.

Back when I was a kid growing up in Dupont WA, all my childhood friends had .22's, shotguns, 30-30 leverguns etc. and my Massachusetts parents wouldn't even let me own a BB gun!

I was constantly checking out gun books from the school library, back before they were banned and replaced with titles like: Billy's Not A Boy Anymore., so much so that when I entered the Air Force
I shot Expert Marksman M-16 right out of basic!

I was so proud standing in formation in my dress blues with one tiny Marksmanship ribbon pinned to my uniform.

Now it seems these political pinheads are trying to take my guns away again, only this time we have our Second Amendment on our side! :D

Same State, same Country, just different plinking woods that's all. :)

Don't expect any help from the Washington Supreme Court; the justices are of the same ilk as the governor that championed the new laws.

It's gonna be interesting to see how these liberal state supreme courts try to navigate around Bruen, especially after others get spanked.

Why should they care to navigate around it?

Just ignore it, make up something, move forward with whatever the agenda is. There are no repercussions for them. No one elected in WA is worried about getting re-elected, they count the votes. If they get overruled, just do it again. And again. And again.

They always find some ballots behind the copy machine or wherever, if the election is close. Count fast, and there is no way to determine which ballots are tainted. Of course, this happens in King County.

I'm not sure if I read something correctly— does this new law now de-value every semiautomatic firearm in the state? Such as "0" dollars? Taking a collection and investment worth thousands of dollars and over night losing that value? If you can't sell or trade it, it has no value…..did I understand that?

There are a total of three new Bills that were signed into law yesterday, but some don't go into effect until Jan 1, 2024.

Governor signs historic gun safety legislation into law
April 25, 2023
Olympia - Over 2,500 mass shootings in four years. That's more than one mass shooting every day. This is the reality facing families and communities across the nation, but lawmakers in Washington state hope to change that.
Today, Gov. Jay Inslee signed three historic gun safety measures into law that will collectively prohibit the sale and distribution of assault weapons, require safety training and a 10-day waiting period to purchase a firearm, and hold firearm retailers and manufacturers accountable for the harm their weapons can cause.
"Gun violence rips loved ones from their families, devastates our communities, and traumatizes our children again and again," said Rep. Strom Peterson (D-Edmonds) who sponsored House Bill 1240. "Students everywhere have been speaking up, demanding we do something to protect them. We've stepped up to answer them. With the Governor's signature today, we're sending a clear message to our kids: we hear you and we are acting to keep you safe."
HB 1240 prohibits the manufacture, importation, distribution, sale, or offer for sale of any assault weapon. The legislation defines assault weapons through a list of specific firearms and a list of attributes, echoing definitions in other states. Current owners can keep assault weapons they currently own, and licensed dealers are permitted supply any branch of the military or law enforcement agency.
"Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children in our country," said Rep. Liz Berry (D-Seattle) who sponsored House Bill 1143. "As a mom of two little ones and as a person who has lost someone who I love to gun violence, this is devastating to me. It's simple: these bills will save lives.'
HB 1143 requires a 10-day waiting period and proof of completed safety training for all firearm purchases. The new requirements mirror those overwhelmingly approved by Washington voters in 2018 through I-1639, which applied to semiautomatic rifles.
Inslee also signed SB 5078, introduced by Sen. Jamie Pedersen, to require firearm manufacturers and retailers to take reasonable steps to enforce existing laws, track their inventories, and prevent sales to straw purchasers or those at risk of harming themselves or others.
Now signed, HB 1240 takes effect immediately, while SB 5078 will take effect 90 days after the adjournment of the legislative session and HB 1143 will take effect January 1, 2024.

We will need to take a mandated gun safety class to buy any firearm in the future, and it looks like one of the Bills will make it possible for victims of gun violence to sue retailers of firearms.

" it looks like one of the Bills will make it possible for victims of gun violence to sue retailers of firearms."

Federal law prohibits this. Washington State lawmakers are idiots.
