Washington State AWB passes Senate, goes to House

Off-topic - Sorry - BRL40 - I haven't ever seen the town of Steilacoom mentioned in a blog post since Mr. Gore's invention of the Internet! I had the good fortune of living there, 77 to 80 while stationed at FT Lewis. I think the nice old Grammy was Gov of WA state then. I don't think Lewis had a Rod & Gun club so I don't remember anyplace other than Welcher's Gun Shop. Picked up my first - and greatly missed - Model 12 snub there, and a Ruger Mini-14 Liberty Model at the Lewis PX. I don't think the AR-15's were commonly available then, but I don't remember. For whatever my opinion is worth, I don't think any of these bans will stand up in the courts, at least for the next few years.

Not sure what part of "in common use" these states don't understand. Of the several challenges to ASW bans, one will be granted cert by SCOTUS. This issue will be put to rest.

Oh where o' where is St. Beneitez, I doubt his ruling will change from his original that the full panel 9th Circuit denied. But when Bruen came down and the Supreme Court GVR'd all those pending cases back to the inferior courts and told them to get it right, the 9th instead of fixing their stance also punted back down to the judge that already had it right.

A total waste of time and money, but exactly what California wanted to prolong the suffering. Once this goes through the 9th and they follow instructions it should allow for quick remedy of the left coast infringements. Heaven forbid if it has to go all the way back up to the Supreme Court.

Nope. This issue will never be put to rest, at least not here in the communist State of Washington.

Even though I reside in what is commonly known as the Free side of Washington, those on the wet side are running the show, and running the entire state into the ground and down the drain.

The wet-siders have a bottomless pit full of my tax dollars and all of those dollars will be spent to destroy us all.

don't lump all of Western Washington together. It's really just portions of 5 counties that cause all the trouble.

I have reached out to SAF to inquire about litigation. I find it amazing that this crud gets serious attention after Bruen. A huge problem is that the Attorney General is planning to be Governor, and pushes all sorts of bad ideas as a result. Any lawyer who does not know that Bruen will result in this law failing is an idiot, and any lawyer who goes forward if they do know is engaged in serious misconduct. Ferguson has no experience at all (or any credentials at all) in criminal justice matters, and should not be AG. There is a good argument he should not have a law license, but I have no faith in the WSBA to address his well-documented ethics and competency problems.

I have friends (elected prosecutors) who would be great, but they are not crazy enough to take on that office and its dysfunctional culture.

Exactly. California just had their 10+ round mag ban declared un-Constititional in light of Bruen, so what does Washington do? Pass one just like it!

because legislators voted themselves immunity from the law when they deprive, or attempt to deprive, the populace of their Rights.

So, where is CA at with normal capacity mags then? Can people order them now, and have them shipped to CA?

Hopefully someone from CA can chime in, but last I read that was the case - the ban had been declared un-Consititional and buying standard capacity (10+ round) magazines was being allowed.

I checked a few big online mag sellers, and they still list CA as restricted to 10 rd or less mags. Looks like they are waiting until the Supreme Court specifically tells CA their law is illegal under the 2nd A.

Yeah, I think that the CA mag ban may only be "on hold" due to a stay or injunction that the court that declared it un-Constititional put in place against it. It will probably end up having to go to SCOTUS for a final ruling.

Some sellers may still be complying with the ban because
a) they don't want to go through the hassle of changing policies back and forth unless and until they know it is permanent, and
b) they don't want to risk getting in trouble and having the CA government come after them after the fact if the ban is upheld.

My point was, WA just went ahead with their ban DESPITE the fact that it has been ruled un-Constititional elsewhere, because
a) they are determined to restrict gun rights every way they can - our AG & Governor never met a gun control scheme that they didn't instantly fall in love with, and
b) they've got nothing to lose - lawsuits against their un-Constitutional laws don't cost THEM anything - they have unlimited war chests of money (that they took away from us via taxation) that they can and will use to fight us in the courts.

A thought occurred to me as to why, in the face of the Bruen decision, states are still passing into law new laws that run afoul of the SCOTUS and the Bruen decision. The current make up of the SCOTUS is conservative, but with this current court's decision to reverse a decades old decision on Roe vs. Wade, they have signaled that a future SCOTUS can revisit and overturn the decisions of prior SCOTUS decisions. So states will continue to pass laws that defy the 2A in hopes that the make up of the SCOTUS will change and then anti-2A laws will be upheld.

My Dad retired out of Ft. Lewis when I was about 8 (65 now) and we moved to Dupont when it was still a tiny little town.

Then my mother decided we needed a new house in Steilacoom.

You guys ever seen the movie THE AVIATOR with Leonardo DiCaprio, and Alan Alda as some sleazebag politician who's willing to do a great injustice to Howard Hughes just to be in some rich guy's pocket.

That's how I feel about the baloney being passed here.

On the bright side, I have a brand new Aero Precision Nickel Boron bolt carrier assembly and also their Atlas S-1 M-LOC free float handguard is due any day now. :)

Figured that if I'm going to be stuck with this fun little rifle for a while, I may as well trick it out and enjoy the heck out of it! :D

BTW, Areo Precision manufacturing is located in both Tacoma and now in Lakewood WA. too.

I wish them the best, they make good stuff.

ETA: What, nobody likes this post?

Remember the scene in the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales where the sweaty slob store clerk says "I like myself better than anybody I know."

All I can say is it's a darn good thing posters can't like themselves on this forum or the next 4 pages would be filled.

I think you hit it right on the head when you mention "crazy enough", that is always the problem with people that run for public office. My dad used to have a serious problem with career military people, he used to refer to the military as "welfare for men." I think the same thing could be said for public office, a good attorney should be able to make better money in private practice, I have been told it is not as easy as one would think it is and part of the reason for a burgeoning prosecutor's office, which then leads down the road to running for a political office like A.G.
I do think its interesting that Scalia wrote that there was room in the 2nd Amendment for "States Rights." He has always been held on a pedestal for his leaning to the right on most decisions.
The dry side of the state is changing as Westies move out here to escape the craziness. The range I belong to is hanging on by its fingernails, we've been active for 125 years. I do not currently own an AR or AK rifle platform, I did convert an AR I won in a raffle to a PDW in .40S&W. In the past I was more of an AK shooter. I am not the most active defender when it comes to high velocity sporting rifles with high capacity magazines. My only defense that I use when talking with my anti gunner friends is that at the time our Bill of Rights and Constitution were written the state of the art firearm was the flintlock, smooth bore, muzzle loader. Noone at the time envisioned anything like the AR, needless to say it is currently the state of the art firearm.

A hundred years after the Decleration of Inderpendance, we did have Gatling Guns with very high capacity detachable magazines. There is a long standing precedence for ownership of magazines holding over 10 rounds. If you could afford a Gatling Gun, you could own one.

Yea Aero Precision makes good stuff alright.

Looks like our governor will be signing it any time now. Pretty sure lawsuits are already drawn up.
