Way off topic, 22LR cases compared to 9mm or 45ACP

When this happens to me I just smile and say to myself "Still better than being at work or God Bless America" Try it....It makes the pain go away quicker. :D

The milspec is one of the best 1911s to start with. Built to spec so parts fit really well, CS from Springfield is among the top. But moreover, if you get the itch to customize your 1911 (and who doesn't at some point) it makes a wonderful basegun for about anything you can dream up. Its not gaudy with ugly roll marks, looks the 1911 part in every way. I have had many and they are great shooters. If you are able to, see if you can secure a "NM" serialed Milspec. these are milspecs that are completely assembled and fit here in the states...nothing wrong with the non-NMs, its just that the NM versions get a little more TLC.

for drool factor, check out my favorite smiths website for what can be done to the 1911 - specifically using a lot of Springfield Milspecs and GIs. Chuck has done work for me and I for him (note his company logo on his photos ;) ) and its pure art and function and form. He is a true artisan. ROGERS PRECISION

Here is a GI and a Milspec I had worked over by some other people. They just look and fire amazingly. Good price point on the milspecs/GIs as well. Personally, if I were on the path to modification, I would go with the GI (I like the straight cocking serrations). If I were to keep it stock for some length of time, I would go with the Milspec since it has more usable sights, and a lowered ejection port

BACK on topic....yes the 45 brass is hot straight out of the gun, but not like the 22LR. What's particularly hot is when a spent casing finds it way up and over your shooting glasses that have slipped down the nose a tad and lodges next to your nose against your brow! ouch....if it can find the small opening it will....never ceases to amaze me. LOL

*drooling*!! Those 1911's look great...the top shots should be on the cover of a magazine!
We have a gun show coming to town Feb 18/19, so the wait is on. I am going to see if there is anything there worth while and if not, pull the trigger (no pun intended) on a 1911 online.

I am looking at the SA 1911 Mil-spec...if I can find one in stock anywhere at a good price! Seems like some good reviews, and a very nice piece overall. Although, now I might have to look at the Rock Island choices...

the R.I was on a review head to head with the kimber and as a surprise it was more accurate than the kimber and believe me i not dissing the kimber so the R.I 1911 its my next choice...

Interesting thing is that Kimber (correct me if I'm wrong) only has a 1 year warranty. Our MP15-22s have a lifetime warranty along with my wife's S&W 9mm Sigma.

Rock Islands have an odd warranty but you can get parts so cheap that it almost doesn't matter. Also there is an Armscor customer service office (RIA is owned by Armscor) that does excellent work and I've heard nothing but good things in the rare event a RIA 1911 has to be worked on.

The range we shoot at has carpeted walls for each stall. I always have them land on my arm, neck, and such, but the 45ACP shells never feel as hot. In one magazine I had shell casings land on me 3 times (10rd mags) in my XD45. Then while shooting the 15-22 the shells shoot out faster and hotter. What makes it funny though is she stays well covered, but somehow the little 22LR shells find their way in the smallest areas. Last time we shot next to a chick in short shorts and sleeveless cutoff shirt and cut neck, punk rock style. She had multiple shell burns. I didn't want to shoot next to her in case she freaked out and jerked, a partition wall isn't gonna stop her from shooting me.

As for 1911, I want the Springfield TRP with light rail and armory kote... plan on getting one soon. But main shooter is my XD45ACP Tactical in Olive Drab and Viridian SXD green laser. Amazing combo, quick teardown, and easy maintenance. Eats up any ammo you throw at it, kind of like the 15-22 :)

I might be led to believe that the amount of powder burned inside the case would have a lot to do with it. With your handgunds, believe it or not, your not burning all the powder with the shorter barrel, hence the huge muzzle flash handguns produce. BUT, with the 15-22, the powder has more time to burn inside the longer barrel allowing more heat to build up. I could totally be talking outa my bum bum.

i am not so sure i wholly agree about the handgun shell not being 'so hot'. I was at the range with my m&p 9. I wear glasses to see, they are safety glasses, so I don't wear 'shooter' glasses over them. Somehow a casing came back to my forehead, fell between my eye and my glasses and hit my check below. I had quite a burn from that. Facial skin is a bit more sensitive to heat.

Worst part was that I spun around in pain, it was very sudden and unexpected . A potentially dangerous situation as I was now not pointing downrange. I corrected very quickly, but not good at all.

Pote, that is one nice looking 1911 (the black with dark grips). I have two 45, A custom built R.I.A. and a high cap Paraordance P12 (black) I carried on the streets as backup. Love both of them.. The R.I.A. is my nail gun, the Para is my D.F.W.M gun, (Don't F%^k With Me), bad guy..
