My wife has been bugging me to shoot my 15-22, so a couple of weeks ago we made a range trip and had a lot of fun shooting it along with my 41 and a few other rimfires. I ran into this problem though, while sighting in the Bushnell red dot. Whenever I shot the rifle, every other round or so I experienced a stovepipe jam and sometimes a double feed? I field stripped and lubed and cleaned it then handed the rifle to her. She proceeded to shoot and aside from an occasional balk it functioned perfectly. After a couple of mags, she handed it back to me and afer inserting another mag I hunkered down and began to shoot and this time every round jammed on me. She took it back and shot the rest of the mag. I'm stumped! Why? Am I not holding it right or what? Has anyone else had this happen to them???.....Dan

S & W model 15

What brand of ammo are you using? Could be caused by dirty ammo? CCI and Federal are the two cleanest brands, Remington is the worst. Use a lead cleaning solvent to clean everything up. I have a 15, with 12 magazines. Mine works great until it gets about a thousand rounds thru it, then it is due for a good cleaning. Use synthetic oil on the working parts. Hope that helps.

+1 on Seanie boy 1986's suggestion. Any upward pressure on the magazine could cause what you are seeing.

From your description, it seems the only variable here that is changing is the shooter.

It could be that your wife is simply better at firing tactical weapons than you are ;) (I know....that was a low blow, but couldn't resist the opportunity :))

Before I bought my 15-22 I watched many YouTube videos on the 15-22. I wanted to get a good idea of what I was buying before I picked one up for myself. In one of the videos the shooter was bench shooting and resting the bottom of the magazine on the bench, the gun had a failure almost every round. The next time you shoot, just keep that in mind and I bet it will operate perfect!

P.S. I am new to the forum and I just wanted to say I really like it, everyone is very nice and extreamly helpful.

Bingo!!....I think you guys have hit the proverbial nail on its ugly head. As I was also sighting in a couple of CZ rimfires off a Caldwell large bag rest, which is about 10" high, they cleared very well but the 15-22, while resting on the forearm off the bag, was also resting on the magazine. Never considered that possibility....by the way the wife really enjoyed the comment about being a better tactical operator! Thanks for the help......Dan! p.s. I've taught her that in order to shoot the thing, that it's important that she learn to load all the magazines.
