Well here's another fine kettle of fish I've gotten myself in to!

I've often wondered if ALL of my membership money is being spent on mailings and postage to ask for MORE MONEY. Not to mention even more mail (EVERY MONTH) telling me it's time to re-up.
I joined on my dad's birthday - I KNOW when it's time.

P.S. Wayne should be ASHAMED to take so much of the money that they NEED...........

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRG!
I may fail to renew this July after reading that!

One of my favorite L&H movies is "Out to Sea". The boys are out on a small sail boat with a killer and he told them to cook him some dinner. They didn't have any food and simulated an old string mop for spaghetti.

I had a nearly complete collection of all their stuff including an interview with Stan's daughter giving a lot of biographical details about the boys, their lives and their life long friendship. By now I forget which was which but one fact I found interesting was that one of them loved golf and the other loved deep sea fishing. So they would go play golf one time and go fishing another. I'd be willin' to bet that watching them do either one together would be a scream.

I remember reading somehting about Stan Laurel. It was said he was very approachable and had his name and address listed in the phone book. If anyone wanted to stop by for a visit? that he would welcome theminto his home(which was in some apartment building) and would serve cookies and lemonaid or kool aid. Id have loved tohave met him.I got lucky and met James Cagney in Los Angeles when i was 15. He was absolutely the nicest one could meet.

Notsure which L&H is my favorite? I liked so many of their skits. One that stands out is when they are trying to deliver a Music Box that the wife of someJudge bought for him for his birthday. I dont remember the title but--that was a great episode.

Best one I ever saw is where they were in a dark tunnel and stan lite his thumb several time. It may be the one your mentioned.

I used to love those guys but still hate their xmas movie.

I thinkthat is the one. Its been about 30 yers snce I last saw that one. I was going to look to see if it was on youtube yesterday--but the battery died on my tablet. :D

How did this thread go from a guy talking bout his NRA membership to the the dumb Stan and Ollie ?

Ask Jack to rename his thread to the NRA/Laurel and Hardy thread-then there will be no bones about what this thread is all about.

By way of clarification I'm not quitting the NRA. I'm getting kicked out. I have tried for 3 months to get the problem resolved. Phone calls, e-mails, hand written letters via snail mail. No effort was made on their part to resolve the situation. All they did was continue to send me bills and threaten me....and sermonize how important my membership was to them.

I dislike loosing my NRA membership but all my wasted time and effort has left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm ready to put it all behind me.
Onward and upward......

Id write them one more letter saying only that you are a Veteran, and that if they are the new VA? I wonder what they would say? hopefully, sorry and fix what they owe you.

Will this go on your record? To start with I am a member of the NRA yet I never had the desire to post the icon on my headings or whatever. For the most part I never buy caps and shirts advertising someones products. Maybe I do have a old Indian MC logo shirt and a John Deere cap. I dont have any bumper stickers or tatoos. When I was a lot younger I probley had the bumper stickers etc. I also was more of a sucker and would politely listen to phone call solicitors etc. Not anymore. You do get grouchier as you age. Maybe a little wiser too. Ever notice how activists are always young? The older I got I found out I aint going to save the world and solicitors are out of luck with me.

For the first few years here I didn't fly the NRA banner, although I was a member. That was until I came across a thread Lee posted explaining why it's a good idea to advertise one's membership, at least here on the forums.

Members flying the NRA flag here not only promote the NRA but also appear, to outsiders (both friends and foes), as a united group, which is a good thing.

I get a call once a week from them. They're tactics seem more like a collection agents than a fund raisers.

I don't want to advertise for a group that harasses members like they do...I don't want my name associated with an organization that doesn't respect its membership.

I also think that putting the icon on your header here is of minimal value...if someone joins the forum, he or she probably already owns a gun and/or is a gun enthusiast. If not, then he or she probably won't last long here anyway.

I think they are using outside contractor (boiler room) solicitors to raise funds, and this isn't the first thread where guys are angry enough to quit. I got off the list years ago. I'll send them a contribution now and then on top of my dues, but I toss any solicitations. I maintain my membership because the more members they have, the more fear they instill in the hearts of the other side. I also volunteer for the local Friends of NRA committee, and we raise funds for clubs, range improvements and training classes. I think we all owe something to the firearms community, and I would suggest that those who can't support the NRA should contribute to other organizations that also need the money to preserve our rights.

Try this

Howdy,
With all the things the NRA has to do and counter I'd like to add that I doubt that you have to be a member to slip them a donation.
I am a member and don't let the things I don't like bother me. For you that believe in their work, and are bugged by how they go about it, slip them a few bucks from time to time.
Every gun owner in America benefits from what they do, even if you don't get a magazine or insurance. The benefit of an NRA are still HUGE for all 2A folks. Even if you don't choose membership they can use and would appreciate your help.
Thanks
Mike

Is there any required stats out there like other outfits that say what percentage of a $100s go `s to collecting the $100s? I was reading this thread when a NRA solicitor called. Just got off the phone with him.

I reupped when I bought a pistol in February. Got my first renewal notice a couple weeks ago.

Generally I just shred 'em till I stop receiving the American Rifleman. ;)
