A Las Vegas team made it all the way to the Little League World series. The game was played today and Vegas went in there hamstrung in a couple of ways. First, Little League rules are such that we could not field out #1 pitcher. Almost worse was the regular catcher getting injured in the US Championship game and one of the other kids had to step in.
The other team was from Taipei, and I have to say they were extremely well coached, disciplined and patient. I think the Vegas pitchers were very disheartened by how tight the strike zone seemed to be. I thought it was the camera angle fooling me until the commentators gave their opinion on the matter. Still, it was the same for both teams, and the discipline I spoke of for the Taipei boys was very much lacking with the Vegas lads. They seemed to find it impossible to lay off the first pitch they saw. Also, Taipei were fielding their top pitcher, a lad who throw over 80 mph a few times during the tournament. Final score was 7-0, with most of the scoring in a later inning, aided by an error that cost runs runs. Maybe next year...
