I had some new toys to check out and some reloads to test. First, I dont know how I ever got by without a magwell grip. For those of us who use bipods it is a great thing and gives you a good steady grip.
I have a new muzzle brake built by this gentleman in GA and after I changed my A2 front sight to a railed gas block my recoil and muzzle rise had increased. The muzzle brake is almost 2 1/2 inches long and really works well. He will work with you to make what you want so you can individualize your rifle in what ever manner you want. I actually wanted a target crown on the brake and got it.
The Grip Pod Systems bipod is great, holds the rifle very steady and doesnt add a ton of weight to the front of the rifle. Plus it gives a great forward grip for the people who do tactical run and gun shooting.
I used to run a 8-32x42 scope on my rifle for a little bit and am going to go back to it. The Sport is accurate enough to utilize a scope of that size. The 4-16x40 I have on there is nice but I can reduce my group sizes on my targets by at least half with the stronger optics.
I loaded up 50 Hornady 68gr Match BTHP last night using 24.3 grains of IMR 4895 mixed brass Federal Lake City 5.56 and Ram .223, half with Remington Small Rifle Benchrest Primers and half with CCI small rifle magnum primers. Just came back from shooting some of them. I was comparing them with my Federal xm193 5.56x45 the standard bullet I shoot. The wind is blowing about 25 mph so I only shot @ 50 yards but I was grouping the XM193 at about .7 on 3 shot groups 1.5 inches high. The ones loaded with the Remington Benchrest Primers Grouped .6" about 3/4 inch high. The CCI primered ones grouped about .8 at 2 1/2 inches high. Just a comparison but I am happy with both. I am thinking I would be better served to stay with 55 to 60 gr bullets but I have 150 more of the Hornady 68gr Match that I am going to load up and learn more about.
Great day and fun to put some more bullets down range, I need to do this more often..
