1046; don't know the specific product number. 10mm pistol, 3rd gen., only 151 made.

Sam

I'm thinking you might want to break it down into calibers . You have your basic , 9mm , 40 and 45 . But then you also have .356 , which is a story all on it's own . It might be easier if you pick up a copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W , 4th edition . There's a section on PC guns , both semi and revolver . Is there any certain one you are looking at ?

Where did you see that number Squidsix ? I have 2 of them , going to new homes soon . Scoring some 945s and 2 other PC guns . A Recon9 , one of 212 , and a SD40 , one of 207 or 217 . Ten might have been sent to Europe.

I am venturing out of revolver land again, but I don't think there were any 1st generation PC guns built and marketed as such. Agree with consulting a copy of the SCSW for the most complete information, even though it may be lacking certain details.

From info I gleaned from a different thread recently:

1. PC did some full custom guns at the beginning. Those will be basically unique and one of a kind. So most rare?

2. 1046 is super rare but not a PC gun.

3. Model 44 is even rarer? But I don't think the PC made those either.

4. The SD guns are also rare.

5. The PPC 9 guns are hard to come by because they were only sold to Law Enforcement but do pop up now and again for sale. The 6 inch version was selling recently for ~$8000 but has come back down to ~$5000 for a nice one.

6. The 952-2 6 inch Masterpiece Wishco variant is very rare in the US as it was made in small numbers for export but a handful remained in the US.

7. There is a black and silver variant of the 952 6 inch made in very small numbers.

OR JUST LOOK ON THIS THREAD: The Complete 3rd Gen PERFORMANCE CENTER Model List

I understand they only made 1500 of these 5903 SSVs. Does that make it a 3rd Gen scarce gun?

You said "1st-3rd Generation"

So add to the list two 1st Gen guns

927 Steel frame 39s ( built in the mid-60s) though the frames actually date to the 50s

What many call the Pre-39.... aka "Smith and Wesson 9mm" 1600 made 1954/55 to 1957

Overall IIRC about >300,000 39s ,mostly -2s were built over abut 25 years

LOL a very, very rare gun is the "6915" only two known to exist.

A CCO ( Colt's "Concealed Carry Officers model" 1911 .45; built with an "Officer model" frame mated with a "Commander" upper) configuration of the 5906.

Squidsix has one .....I've got the other!!!!!!!

:D

'.......1ST-3RD Generation S&W......"

The Performance Center did........ not... exist before 1990 so ..... not sure what he's looking for; as all PC guns would have to be from the 3rd Gen era.

I'm sure you meant to say "did not" exist before 1990.

Correct, thank you...................

Bought a few in the 1990s...... 2 Shorty-9s, an SD-9 and a DPA 5906. There was a short period when PC guns were "cheap" around here in the $500-650 range.... used but sill un-fired in their boxes. Wish I'd bought some more at the time; I passed on a Recon-45, a CQB-45 .... and a third Shorty-9. IIRC all were in the $500-600 range.

There was one gun, Jim Rae's 45 "Super Gun", that was made from two model 52s.

It was a one of one custom make and while the Performance Center didn't exist, at the time, Jim Rae later led the Performance Center. Regards, 18DAI

Thank you very much Smith & Wesson Forum members!

To me, rare is what I don't have yet. Looking for that two tone 952, and a 952-3. Still need a 6" PPC. Need a LNIB 52 no dash, seem to keep getting stuck with examples with shortcomings, to say the least. I think there is a PC 52, don't have it yet. Also having trouble landing a 639. Many others I don't have, but my collection centers on 9mm family and 45 semi autos. I am pretty good on a lot of models considered rare, but these continue to elude.

Lew Horton 5967 less than 500 made...this one is new.
