They'll have a choice whether they want to defend the Constitution or trample on it. I hope they make the right one, because those that go out confiscating guns will have a high percentage of not coming home that night.

What he said. People have to understand that this is a possible scenario. Some folks arent just gonna hand them over. I see where gdogs is coming from. I myself cant say what I may or may not choose to do. If the time comes that confiscation is the govt choice, well then ,as the saying goes, "the ball is our court".

I don't believe it will happen. I'm not saying it isn't possible. Probable restrictions could be: Restricting magazines to 10 rds. Bullet buttons. Restrictions on private party sales of existing assault weapons. More involved buyer backround investigation which would make it longer than a 10 day wait. 10 day, or more, wait for all states. Limit ammunition purchases. If multiple gun purchase, paperwork for each gun bought and increase in backround check for each form. This is my opinion.

This turned out to be a good discussion with many valid points and opinions. I tend to lean that confiscation will. ot happen but there will be very strick limitations enacted and bans on all mags over 10 rounds.

Some Brits & Aussies moved to the U.S. to get away from repressive gun laws. If the U.S.A. becomes the next UK or Australia in terms of gun control, sadly, I'll have to seriously consider moving to a more firearms friendly nation and renouncing U.S. citizenship.

Until then, I'm writing my elected officials every week. I'm going to become more active in my state rifle association. I'm setting a goal of introducing a total newbie to the shooting sports at least once a month. The more people that participate in the shooting sports, the more people we have on our side.

I'm taking a female co-worker to the range over the holiday break to teach her the basic fundamentals of firearms safety, handling, and shooting. I walked out of work with some 8X11 pieces of scrap cardboard. She asked why I had them, and I told her because I could see projectile impact better on them than just plain paper. Apparently she always wanted to learn how to shoot, but didn't know any one who did. I offered to teach.

It's amazing the enthusiasm of a new firearms enthusiast. All the different questions about which gun, what caliber, etc.

With the current crowd in DC, constitutionality may not be an impediment to what the left wants to impose. As has been stated above, the Lautenburg amendment was totally an ex post facto law, prohibited by the constitution, yet it has stood for 15 years.
And that law was passed with a less radical congress than what we have now.

We are already hearing of Republican weakness in this fight, so I fear the very worst. Time will tell.

You may not be old enough to remember when "domestic violence" suddenly became a disqualifier for gun ownership. It was extended BACK to any prior conviction or plea or nolo plea with no exception.
DON'T get me wrong- I do NOT advocate or condone domestic violence. Period.
BUT, we suddenly had cops who had plead nolo to a charge of slapping their wives who were very suddenly disqualified from being cops OR even owning a gun.

I'm not sure why that was never overturned.

Look at environmental law. It's is very common for a company to be fined for something it did in the 1960s even if what they did was perfectly legal in the 1960s.

I'd say you're in the ball park concerning what will happen. Regarding confiscation, I just can't picture the government going into states like Texas, or Montana, Kentucky or Virginia and telling those folks "Ok everyone, you're being ordered to turn in all your guns". And being law and order citizens, with a high regard for the Congress that made that order, I'm sure they would quickly comply.

Invest your wallet with the only REAL GAME IN TOWN, the NRA.

Take time to learn about ALL the services the NRA provides, so you can explain things to naysayers in a rational manner.

If it's a federal ban on assault weapons, I do not think you're going to see local LE going house-to-house picking up weapons. Most likely will be FBI, Homeland Security, or some other fed agency. Also, they're only acting on orders to confiscate so don't blame them. But we're getting ahead of ourselves here. There is nothing yet that says assault weapons have to be turned in.

If you value your Second Amendment rights you MUST be a member. The NRA is not perfect but they are the most effective organization around.

So please join. If you've been a member and lapsed, please join back up.

Write to both your senators and your congressman. And Speaker of the House Boehner.

There is no guarantee any Assault Weapons Ban will pass - IF folks stand up and make themselves heard.

But if all we gunowners do is go out and panic buy because we fear an "inevitable" AWB bill is coming, the Second Amendment is in big trouble.

So here's the plan:

1. Join the NRA.
2. Write your reps in Congress.
3. Encourage every gun owner you know to do the same.

Do this and the odds of restrictive legislation passing go way down.
