Usually pocket carry a .380. But it's been so dang cold lately I've been wearing my leather gloves when walking the dog which don't work for getting in and out of a pocket. So on those cold days I carry a .45 OWB.

Interesting on how the chart is turning out. .38 Special and 9mm seem to be the overall favorites.
No surprised there.
I think much of the reason might be because 38spl and 9mm are the cheapest to practice with, and the lightest recoiling, minimum self defense caliber made. There is also no shortage of different model guns available that are chambered in those two calibers.

Glock 30S in .45acp.

I put in a 3.5# connector, 0.5# lighter trigger spring, a lighter plunger spring, and I installed Warren Tactical sights (all black rear, tritium front with white outline). It's very accurate, easy to carry, easy to conceal, and fun to shoot.

As for holsters, I either carry it in an Alien Gear Tuck 2.0 (iwb) or Black Dog Concealment kydex owb holster that wears pancake wings instead of standard belt loops. The pancake wings allow it to ride closer.

Forgot to add, I keep it loaded with 230 grain short barrel Speer Gold Dots.

Every day, .45ACP. Camping, small game hunting, fishing trips a .22LR revolver. Large game hunting a .44 magnum, or occasionally a .357.

But every day the .45ACP rides along, usually in addition to those other specific-purpose handguns.

Smith & Wesson M&P Bodyguard, 380 caliber with RIP bullets.

While I carry a 4 inch .357 Magnum S&W Model 686 as a duty revolver from 45 to 59 hours a week, I carry a .38 Special S&W Model 37 all that time and most of the time I'm not working. I even carry it when I carry my serious off-duty gun (3 inch .357 Magnum S&W Model 13).

Therefore, the .38 Spl wins.

I carry a Sig P228 9mm with 16 rounds in it. It performs flawlessly and is very accurate and conceals easy.

My new 686 3" 7 shot. A little bulky but under a jacket just fine.

Yes it has but lead ball ammo at least deforms on impact where as the "approved" jacketed ball ammo that the Geneva Convention dictates does not. For whatever reason, they deem anything else "inhumane". Last I checked, in a war situation, the idea is to kill the enemy. While ball ammo will do it, it does it less efficiently and is thus more "inhumane" than a soft point or hollow point is.

One could hunt deer, bear, or elk with ball ammo but the idea is a fast, clean kill. Ball ammo doesn't guarantee that was well.

The idea is to destroy the enemy, or the enemy's will to fight, if I recall the quote. A solidly placed round will do the latter. Kill a man, that's one man out of the fight. Wound a man, that's two men out of the fight if someone stops to help him.

I carry a FiveSeven these days. Used to carry a Sig .40 cal because it was required on duty, and I didn't want my reactions marred by carrying different firearms. I prefer the FiveSeven.

Sorry - I know this is a S&W forum. I've carried 686s, Chief Specials, 4609, as well. Also m1911.

In the field, I plan to carry the 460V: round selection chosen by enviroment.

It was more of a comment of interest than judging people's choice. I have nothing against either round. As long as it works and the person can comfortably shoot it, hood for them. Like you said, they have been around for over 100 years. There is a reason why that is.

You are correct in the thinking behind the round choice. With the people we have been fighting since Vietnam, they haven't followed that philosophy so much. They leave them where they way and worry about them later. Maybe.

Yes, but we learned the hard way that people don't always stop to help their fellow soldier. This idea was brought to life by the US military were we leave no man behind. Other nations don't have that integrity or honor.

The same is true with thugs today. I'd actually be more surprised to see one of these low life grease balls stop to help their partner in crime. Most will just leave them to bleed out.

So, practice and learn to make your rounds count. You can't count on a wound stopping the threat.

I carry a S&W Mdl.19-4 snub 90% of the time with .38 135 grn short bbl ammo. Just started carrying a 642 bug with the same load in addition to the 19. I do, however, carry a 1911 in .45 acp/ 200 grn critical defense loads from time to time. I have complete trust in the Mdl. 19 and the .38 caliber ammo I use in it to put a stop to some skullduggery.
