What CAN'T You Put Hot Sauce On???

Years ago I used a product that was born here in Louisville, but I can't find it anymore. It was called, believe it or not, Billy Bob's Blazing Trail Hot & Smoky Habanero Sauce. Very fiery, but with a wonderful flavor of smoked habaneros. Loved the stuff. Wonderful in chili or on fried fish, among many other things.

An LGS owner and master gunsmith here used to keep a little bottle of pure capsaicin extract behind the counter. He'd listen for some joker bragging big about his insane tolerance for heat. Then he'd dip just the end of a toothpick in the extract, give it to the braggart to try, and watch him collapse to his knees, fighting for breath.

Seems like most supermarkets won't carry any of the super hot stuff. Maybe they're afraid of lawsuits.

It depends.

Here, Giant Eagle seems to carry decent hot sauce purely on the whim of the individual store. Most of them don't anymore, but a few still carry Dave's Insanity Sauce.

I got my bottle of Dave's Insanity Ghost Pepper at the West Side Market. $20 and worth the money.

My 3 favorites. Sometime's only one and other times some of each one. Actually got turned on to the Sriracha at the lunch counter at a hospital. Dang stuff is good on anything!

Some things like religion and politics can be dicey to discuss with general audiences. I put hot sauce and salsa in that category, at least with those of a northern persuasion. Most Texans can discuss the two, and hot peppers, rationally.

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered some of Daves Temporary Insanity sauce from Amazon. I'll go hotter in degrees! Yeah, I'm a hot sauce wuss. :)

Since we're posting pics of hot sauce now, I thought I might show what's currently inhabiting my fridge. First, some condiments:

I didn't include jalapenos & mixes because I felt that they were granted. Now some sauces:

Those unlabeled bottles on the end of the line up? Those are the ones you want to be REAL careful with.
Shoulda, you mentioned pure capsaicin? I got hold of that once;actually, it was the other way around! I think it took me about a week to stop hiccuping.:eek:

What can't you put hot sauce on?

A couple of weeks ago I made some salsa with jalapeno's, tomatoes, onions and some extra habanero hot sause thrown in to boot. I chopped and mixed all the ingredients well with my hands which I lightly rinsed off afterwards.

I then jumped into my running shorts and "arranged myself" for a run to build up an appetite before the big meal. About a half mile from the house "things started heating up" in the shorts.

I can definitely tell you that there are some things that you shouldn't put hot sauce on. (Especially on a hot humid summer day!)

I learned a long time ago that if you're going to be handling habaneros you should use latex gloves & be sure not to touch ANYTHING till you take them off. What you mentioned is painful, & so is forgetting & rubbing your eyes. Ask me how I know!

I like the El Yucateco hab sauces. The red is okay, the green (which is a really weird shade) is better. The "Mayan formula" is a kind of discouraging-looking tan color, if you get my drift, but tastes nice.

The green is best, though. Good in most anything.

you're eye balls....

We were drinking beer and shucking and eating oysters one day when a guy opened a bottle of hot sauce. Sometimes the tip of the bottle will get plugged with dry sauce. He got the bright idea of slamming the bottle down on the wooden board we set up as a bar, sure enough the hole got cleared, the problem was a big ole shot of hot sauce flew up into his eye!
I can tell you he did some squealing and dancin' around fortunately there was running water nearby. Of course we all had a good laugh once we saw he was ok.

Hot sauce is great for you youngins but for this aging guy a little is ok. But I don't sauce it up anymore. I figure my winners have too many miles on them now.

Remember this as you get old what goes in must come out. My older brother would eat hot cherry peppers by the jar full. When it finally caught up to him it was come on ice cream.

My point is if you like hot stuff and it doesn't like you milk after words does help.

I will suggest you do not put it on a cat's behind. Just trust me on this one.

Louisiana and Crystal are my favorites.
The hottest I have tasted was a home made mix down in Guyana using "Scotch Bonnet" peppers, fiery stuff! A large portion of the population are Indians (from India) and they love their hot sauce HOT!

Never, never, ever put hot sauce on, uh...well,....never mind

While in New Mexico, nothing pleases me more when they say 'red or green?' And just like the locals, I answer 'Christmas.'

I like hot sauce , but the taste of the sauce is more important than the heat. Most hot sauces I consider 'novelty' sauces. All burn , no taste!

Tabasco? Yuck! No heat and horrible vinegar taste.

Cholula and Original Franks? Oh yeah! :D

I get the big bottles at Costco!

Mountain Man Fire-Roasted Habanero Sauce is excellent.

Melindas has a Bhut Jokolia aka Ghost Pepper sauce. The bestest of the hottest!

Lately I've cut back on the sauces because I found a source of dried and ground Ghost Peppers. A little sprinkle goes a long way.

It makes you a typical Clevelander, most of whom seem to consider mayonnaise on white bread, "spicy ethnic food"...

Check where I show I live. I think you'll find the Cleveland is to the east of Obama land not the west. I live a long way from Cleveland.

I just don't like to substitute spice for flavor. I like to taste the food not the spice. I guess I'm just bland but the man asked.

Well you could.....but you probably shouldn't put it on a toilette seat. One pipe fitter smeared about eight of the stalls in the shop. We had a rash of first aid calls that day.

My pantry looks like the pepper palace in Gatlinburg TN. If you need any ideas or want to try something new check out their website! Good people there.

I am realizing that I don't put hot sauce on near enough stuff. Combining this thread with a previous one on fresh corn, I cut the corn off of 5 FRESH ears. I added some butter, black pepper, half and half, and about 6 dashes of Tabasco. Sauted it a few minutes and it was fantastic. The hot sauce flavor was great. Never would have done it before. Now the bottle will stay on the stove always.
