What Colt 1911?

For a night stand gun, of those options, I would go for a standard government model, preferably 70 series. They were making those again recently I think. I have a 70 series GC which is a beautiful target gun that I would not bang around in a night stand. I also have an 80 series Stainless Combat Commander which is handy and has been reliable. I would do a lot of break-in on any new 1911 I was planning to use for self defense with my given choice of load. Learn to clear a stovepipe fast. Some are picky about what they will feed. That being said, my personal nightstand choice is a Glock. Cheaper, accurate, reliable, higher capacity, harder to scratch!

Thanks for the feedback. I actually, decided to go with the Gold Cup Trophy. It will mostly be used for enjoyment at the range. For the nightstand, I decided on a Sig P227.

Congratulations on your decision.
Colt Gold Cup is more than just a 1911, it's an investment. I consider myself the curator of mine. They are beautiful pistols. Far more accurate than my ability.

If you have done your homework before purchasing you'll never go wrong. The great thing about Colt 1911s is that folks are crazy about them. Any time that I've ever decided to sell or trade one I had no problem finding someone who wanted it more than I did..

If you want a piece of history, get one that was made for WW2.
Up to a certain date, the very back of the slide under the firing pin stop is serial numbered to the frame.

Sell a Colt 1911? The thought's never occurred to me.
But, good to know.
For my estate. The Missus is a "Springfield Armory" fan.
