What did I miss on this 34 no dash?

Good morning!

This one caught (34 no dash) my attention because it matched my birth year. I did a few searches and took a look at the 5th edition standard catalog to determine estimated value and see if I wanted to bid...

I came up with $1,200 plus premium for the 2" barrel...seems I missed that mark based on the auction by a bit...am I just off in value or is this an outlier?

Just a moment...

Best,

Jim

Walked into a LGS about 2 months ago, where I have bought before at reasonable prices, and in the glass case was a nickeled Smith, a model 10 or such (maybe/looked like), with a $2,800 price tag on it. Don't know for sure what it was as I didn't even ask a question, let alone to handle it. I simply figured they sure know a lot more than I do!
I guess it's no different (except for scale!) than when you see a report on how much a painting went for at some auction where a 'properly qualified buyer' wanted it and the wallet could say 'yes', while to me the response is "That's art?!".
As suggested above the operative modes should be 'caveat emptor, caveat lector, and caveat auditor'!

P.S. I guess, if only momentarily, such happenings does establish the 'value' of the goods, even when contrary to good judgement and 'past history'.

That was just a case of 2 or more people wanting it badly and perhaps egos getting involved.
Most people wouldn't pay anywhere near that.
The seller is doing back flips. That is assuming that the buyer doesn't realize what he's done and back out.

Nice kit gun, but Wow! I might have to consider putting my "pre" 34, SN 7041 up for auction. That might help finance my hunt for a non-model marked 4 screw K-32 Masterpiece.

Had the 'fleeting thought' along the same lines about my 'pre' 18 Combat Masterpiece, but it 'went away' with the next sip of morning coffee...it's not going anywhere!

The buyer might have been sipping on something other than coffee. I think I'll have another cup of coffee and ponder that hammer price. Whew!!

I agree that this is probably just a case of two (or, looking at the bid history, perhaps three or four) people wanting this particular gun very badly.

I can't judge the bidders in this auction too harshly. At the moment I'm watching a revolver that I am fully prepared to pay well above its "market value" if necessary to acquire it. It's only money, after all.

That seller gets some really nice stuff, and I've got them saved as one of my favorites.

I had that one on my watch list to see what it would do. No doubt, its a honey for sure but it went much higher than I guessed it would. I usually get pretty close on the final number. Not on that one!

Very nice revolver based on the pictures, however, when you consider taxes, fees, etc. that brings the price to $3,000+/-. Like others have mentioned, I have other potential acquisitions that are much higher on the list at a much better value proposition....at least I hope so :)

How many do you see complete (without tools albeit) in that condition out in the wild?

A couple buyers wanted that one and here we are. I have a mint 34-1 2" and one 22/32 kit gun that's… been loved?

I got it for $150 and shoot the fire out of it. I can't fathom paying almost 20x it for a LNIB example!
