What do people do with a $4,000 1911?

I have a friend that is selling his 1911 & 1911a1 military collection. He had a Colt serial #136 that was sold for $25,000. He has also sold union switch & singal, Remington UMC and Springfield's.

The collection is unreal and museum quality. His return on investment is also substantial. It's so vast that it will goto auction soon.

If you could possibly get some pictures of those, or a link to the auction, that would be awesome! Way out of my price range, but would love to see a few of them.

I don't and probably will never own one of those works of art. Love to look at them but I would probably shame them with my mid-range marksmanship. To me it doesn't matter if the owner can afford to buy one a week or has to save for five years to acquire one. It's their money and I'm tickled for them if that what they want and can afford.

Are they worth the money? Absolutely! If they weren't people wouldn't be buying them.

That's a beauty WC. Like to hear more about that one sometime.

I'd love to have a $4000 Wilson but it would make me shoot any better. [emoji57]

My EDC when I got it, and now. No, I don't abuse it, but it is a tool. And a fun tool to shoot. Plus for $300 or so, I can send it back to the mothership and have it refinished.

I have a couple of them. I also have several Colt 1911's from the 70's and early 80's. They get the job done. Until you shoot an Ed Brown or a Wilson you won't get it. Worth everything I paid for them. I intend to pass them on.

You can't beat a cocked and locked 1911. You just need to know what your doing. 45 years and I'm very comfortable with them.

I don't get the polymer. To each his own.

Love the 1911 and the older S&W N frames. I also have plenty of j frames.

That's a good question.

I'm not a competitive shooter nor pretend to be, simply not in that class of shooter. That said, compared to the guys at the club I don't often see anyone else shooting much better for general recreation purposes.

I've always had an itch to get a Wilson. Over the years I built up a lot of hype in my mind. Earlier this year I finally got a chance to shoot Wilson 1911s, 9mm and 45acp.

Very nice guns in every respect. Fit and finish was great, and a refined feel when racking the slide that I simply don't get with my Kimber or Colt.

At 25 yards there was no magic. With the right ammo, more practice on my part and all that... I don't doubt the Wilson would shoot measurably better. But with my target reloads and factory 230gr ball I didn't shoot the Wilson better than my Kimber.

Guns and golf clubs... (for those who get it :D)
