I don't at all mind the stock rubber grips on my 686+.
They are hand filling, absorb recoil from the hotter magnum rounds and ensure a good grip.
Sure, wood grips are beautiful but every revolver I ever carried on the job, (Model 15, 19, 36) eventually ended up with the wood grips replaced.
When I carry a firearm which may be called upon to defend my own or the life of others, form, function, comfort and utility are what I consider beautiful...whether it's a black rifle, a stainless S&W or a Glock.
It's a tool first, an object of art a distant second. (Unless it's strictly a safe queen.)
