What do you think S&W should have included with the Shield?

So they changed the rules? High quality materials don't cost more! That's the best news I've heard all day!!!

I just think personally the trigger needs a little more attention. It's alright, but could be better. Get rid of the safety and put the savings and effort into the trigger group.

I'll be 70 in October so I suspect I have been carrying far longer than you have. That said when a sweat shield is added to the equation and the manual safety protrudes .2 inch off the frame of the gun, how does that not add to the overall thickness of the carry package. Unless things have changed since I was in school counting on my abacus, two things can't occupy the same space.

The holsters wear very well and leave nice indentations were the levers are at and the holster/sweat shield conforms to the body. I've carried the same guns in holsters with an without sweat Shields wearing the same clothes and neither causes less or more printing nor does the entire set-up feel thicker.

Since it doesn't matter regarding the thickness, why not simply carry the 9C instead and gain more rounds and .4 inch longer sighting plane. Bt the way, my body can't feel the difference either. It's the micrometer that shows it.:D

Well the sweat shield dosn't make a difference but an ambi safety and a thicker slide and frame sure does. I have 8 rounds of 9mm in the Shield and the extra slim semi-double stack 8rd mag in a DeSantis Mag packer in my front pocket. It's a lot easier carrying that than a double stack gun on the hip with ambi safety and an extra double stack mag in the pocket. If I need more rounds than what I have on me, I'm in something much deeper than a self defense situation.

Dave:

IMHO, a leather rig will "form" around the thumb safety/safeties in a short time, allowing the two objects to take up the same space :) .....

Probably not worth worrying about.... Having the holster "adjust" the safety lever is more critical....

I've not yet handled the Shield, but I had a PPS40. Cost me a bunch to swap that for a 40C.... But I did like the thinner profile.

My EDC "outdoors" is an Officer's sized 1911 these days, single stack. I'm big enough to conceal a full sized 1911 (or M&P40FS), but the smaller ones are convenient. Around the house, it's a 40C. Overall size is very similar, but the lighter weight M&P lets me get away with a "who cares" belt, whereas the 1911 wants a Wilderness Trainer....

(Both guns get decent DeSantis holsters - essentially identical, actually, other than being made for the different guns. I could get away with Uncle Mike's around the house, but I occasionally take one of the M&P's "out". The 40C is my "airline travel" gun - one that I wouldn't really mind getting an insurance check for, hopefully at the end of a trip. The 1911's have too much "investment" :D. But since I do wear the 40C outside sometimes, I prefer a much better holster.)

Been carrying for about 42 years, too.... Catching up with you :D....

Regards,
