What gun and load did you use for your ccw test?

The rules I carry under want me to qualify with the action type I carry when I'm on my own time and we're out buying ice cream or cookies. So this year I used my 5" 1911/45, the new 3 1/2" 8 shot M27 (awesome wheelgun), the ever popular J frame, and the faithful 5906.

For fun and demonstration, I also shoot the course starting with my 16" Lever rifles (pistol calibers) and transitioning to a handgun.

The S&W .357 is always fun - the accuracy of S&W wheelguns simply WOWS! the younger folks who often haven't shot a revolver before.

Like others here have mentioned, demonstrating revolvers (and Lever rifles) really clears up misconceptions that some people have.

Those new 8 shot moonclipped .357s S&W is making are really nice. If eight rounds of .45 is good, then 8 rounds of .357 can't be bad.

Ammo wise, I use either ball or my handloaded equivalent to the factory carry rounds (230 gr Ranger .45s, 147 gr Silvertip .357s, 127 Gr +P+ Ranger 9mms, 180 gr Ranger or 180 gr +P Gold Dot .40s, and 200 gr Gold Dots (44 Special).

Surprising how many folks have been brainwashed into believing all handloads are poor quality and likely to explode. It's a good thing that is hogwash, or Dillon would have to stop selling all those blue presses... And then they would stop mailing the Blue Press - a great magazine with some good short articles in there somewhere..

my actuall score was transerfed from my military Military Police handgun record with the Beretta M9

In my first CCW class I believe I used a Sig P220 with 230gr handloads. The second class I took, which qualified me for the MO CCW, I used my Sig P220 and XD45C Tactical, both with 230 grain factory loads. Plus the instructors S&W Model 27 and Model 41.

Did I mention also a 1928 Thompson submachine gun, full auto.

I chose it because the revolver fits my hand well and I also thought it would be cool to go "old-school". I was easily the best shooter in my class in spite of carrying the low tech firearm.

Same gun I was issued as a Michigan Consrvation Officer many years ago. S&W Model 10 Winchester 125JHP ..... Just like the years of yor.... All on a 8X10 sheet of paper.

The worst shooter was a gentleman shooting a Glock held sideways(at least until the instructor chewed him a new one). The guy wasn't even on the paper with half of his shots at 7 yards,

The second worse was a female "Naval Security Officer". She hit the paper most of the time but it was more a pattern than a group. She also had the worst attitude in the class and she went ballistic when she found out they didn't give you your permit on the spot.

What did you rely on?

Walther PP 32acp with S&B fmj, instructer took a look at my target then a the gun and just gave me a "damn" look.all 25 rounds were in a 3" circle in the center.what can I say the thing MOE(minute of eyeball).

Colt Huntsman .22 with whatever ammo was in the cabinet at the time. The instuctor said it didnt make a difference on the caliber to test with so I said what the hell. Didnt have to prove anything but that I could hit the target 11 out of 22 times from 7 yards. I mainly took it because there were two other people in the class with me and they needed to use my gun so I kept it simple.

4" 686 with 158 grain .357 JHP

Our course instructor preferred that we not use a .22, but he would have allowed it if absolutely necessary. The instructor my husband had did not have anything against them using a .22.

When i qualified,i carried both a revolver and a semi-auto.
Rossi M677 .357 for summer carry

S&W 4046 .40 cal for winter carry

I used my old, vintage, no-dash Smith & Wesson Model 59 9mm after my handy/dandy Bersa .380cc (now at the warranty service provider!) threw off its trigger disconnect spring -- which I reconnected with a small screwdriver, but still!.. -- during an earlier range practice session.
Shot out the bottom half of the red center. The 59 is a good shooter at short range.

I used my Smith 629 with six inch barrel and I shot the Federal 200 grain lead hollow point load. Now I carry a 210 grain load from Custom Cartridge so if I had to do it again, that is the round I would use.

CCW test? What's that?

There are no tests in WA state and no safety classes required... Just file an application for CPL and stop by a month later to pick it up. No need to register guns and no waiting periods for CPL holders.

A month ago I bought a nice Speed Six. After closing sale, store manager asked me: "Do you want paper or plastic bag for your new gun?"

Good Old West, folks! The way it should be.
