What do they prove?
The shooting portion of the class in Ohio is not very structured. It is mainly there to see if you can handle a pistol safely. So maybe that's the only validity to them.
The other states that have some sort of point scoring system are pointless. What are they proving? Static, square range marksmanship has about as much to do with using a handgun defensively as flying model rockets does with going to the moon.
