What gun do you reach for the most?

What is your "go to" gun when going to remote areas?

I have the chance to qualify with several guns but I just do prefer my M&P9 Pro. Sounds boring and it is. But I carry it every day and rely on it, period.

So far it has never failed me (except with malfunction drills when we loaded empty casing between live rounds). I like it too much to replace.

For work I carry BB item 24I and for remote areas I have extra magazines loaded with BB item 24L.

I'm feeling confident with my choice.

Once my 1911 is finished I plan on switching but I'm not 100% sure yet.

EDIT:

I bought a M&P40 awhile ago for that purpose. It's a LE trade in with night sights. It shoots nice but has a magazine disconnector. Don't like it.

For the past year or so, it's been a 640-1. It goes everywhere with me. When my wife and I travel in our motorhome she rides along, so she has really seen the state of Texas in 2017. Hopefully, in 2018 she will get to see a few more states!

Either my Glock 19 MOS or my LCP. I am surprised how many 44 mags are mentioned as go-too guns. You guys must want to hurt someone.

My latest every day is a PC627 2.65" with VZ grips, hogue extended cylinder release in an OWB custom Kydex holster. I carry it year round under a jacket or button down shirt in the summer. She is scratched up, marked up and shot a whole lot. I think it lives up to it's UDR name and is the finest weight/capacity/firepower snubby you can get. If it had a 3" barrel that would be the only way to make it even better. My backup is a 640 pro series for events that I need deep concealment.

Almost always my stock 442...a little worn but in a good way.

If I'm going really "remote" I'll throw my 686 into the mix...

How does the K-frame handle 44mag rounds? I've been tempting to look into the Model 69 because it fits into the holster nicely but like the durable N frame of the 29/629s

The M69 is an L frame not a K, substantially beefier.

I don't usually get too remote. Maybe an overnighter here and there. When I'm woods-bumming, it's a Model 60-15 with a smorgasbord of .38/.357 loads- .38 shotshells, .357 JSPs, and a few Silvertips.
That's a handy revolver. There's usually a 442 tucked away somewhere if I'm going to be far from a vehicle, and that vehicle more than likely contains a .357 Rossi levergun.

Remember back last year when so many of us were grabbing up the M640's being surplused by Centerfire Systems? Yep, I got one, it cleaned up so nice and gets carried alot when I go to town. Even shot the HR218 course with it.

Woods carry today, in cold icy/snowy woods, a Ruger Security Six .357 4" SS, c.1975. Holster is an older S&W brand field design. Got it back in the Summer for nostalgic reasons (it mirrors my first centerfire revolver, even same year)
I made up the niche of 'not abusing my S&W's' in order to get the Ruger.

In suburban Charlotte, NC...any one of various Smith J or K Frame or Colt D Frame snubs, chambered in .38 or .357. Loaded with .38+P most of the time.

In remote areas, hiking, etc...3"-4" Smith K Frame in .357 OR 5" 629 Classic (.44 Mag.) OR Glock 29 (10mm). Big guns only in heavy black bear country or Everglades. That said, the bears in Eastern NC are more likely to go after a potato than a person.

I question my reliance in the 629. Despite my best efforts, just cannot get used to .44 Mag. Follow-up shots are hard. I'm not sure how you guys handle the 3" Model 29 or other .44 Mag.

This the pistol I carry with me almost everyday.

My ammo is custom made by pulling the bullets from new American Eagle, then reloaded to approximately 2,000 fps. The resulting ammo has proven to be 100% reliable. The attached video shows Elite's version:

While approximately the size of a 1911, the FiveseveN is markedly lighter even fully loaded and can literally be carried in a pocket if so desired. The all polymer exterior is the "perfect finish."
Sometimes I carry just the pistol in the front pocket of a pair of Wrangler Cargo pants, and with it's overall smooth exterior it draws easily. Other times I'll carry IWB with 5 spare 20 round mags.

Now that I retired, Ruger 1911 lwgt commander with extended/threaded barrel is always with me, along with 2 xtra mags.

Am working up to the 2.75 M69 with milder 250 grainers for any forays into the woods. Smaller / lighter than the 44 SBH.
