I have been waiting for S&W to release the Short Barreled M69.
Although they are showing it on their website, I haven't seen one for sale anywhere online. I have owned the 4.25" M69 since it became available in 2014, and consider it one of my favorite .44mag Revolvers. I would love to have a short barrel version of that gun.

I'm in the exact same boat, but for the NM66 snub. Like you, I have the 4.25", and LOVE it, but none of the new 2.75" Model 66 snubs are to be found online. My favorite LGS has not received any news from their S&W distributors on arrival dates. I've been watching for these to hit the streets since they were announced back in November.

I thought for sure the 66 would be out by now, with the new 69 released right behind it.

Didn't you guys hear? The whiz kids in S&W marketing have already cancel those two models; based on principals learn at Ivy League business schools, and modeling done on a rented NASA super computer.

What inventory that exists will be liquidated at fire sale prices.... overseas. All drawings will be destroyed, all CAD/CAM files and programs erased. Neither model is to ever be seen or spoken of again.

Tell me I'm wrong.

Old timers.... how many times have we seen this (or something like it) happen?

Stop it Kernel, just stop it!! :( The one gun I plan to purchase this year (which has little to do with unplanned purchases this year) is the NM 66 snubby. Otherwise, Springfield will get my $$ with a 3" EMP, or maybe the new model EMP contour carry. Released right after SHOT Show, and they had already begun shipping by the time I got the press release in my email.

Dangit Smith, c'mon with the 66 and 69 snubbies already!!

I just sent S&W a query as to the availability of these just now. I guess I will see in the coming days of they will respond with anything. I might be interested in one of these myself. Not to shoot full power 44 mags in but rather some lighter loads. Since I reload that isn't a problem finding the right balance of power versus recoil.

I thought they weren't supposed to release until late 2nd or early 3rd quarter?

I don't remember where I saw that, but I do remember that there would be a wait involved.

FWIW

Time to buy a 44 special

Hopefully this is old Intel. I swear in a previous NM Snub thread that Smith had been ramping up production prior to SHOT.

That EMP Contour Carry with the 4" Commander-length/proportion slide... if it ever makes it onto the California DOJ "Safe" Handguns Roster, that is, will be the sole reason that the 9mm Parabellum cartridge would ever darken the threshold of my ammo cabinet. What a great little gun!

Meanwhile...

Time to buy a 44 special

No kidding. I just latched onto a previously-owned Model 696. It was worth the asking price, which in my case was reasonable compared to some I've seen lately. And, *cough* Ruger *cough* is offering a 3" GP100 five-shot .44 Special as new production.

Time to buy a 44 special

Why, when I have a grand total of 5 44 Special cases? I already have around 1500 or more 44 Mag cases and loaded from 44 Special pressures to bad boys that you wouldn't want to run many through a snubby 44 Mag. I'm looking at ammo commonality. I also load my 357 Mags from 38 Special loads to hot as heck too all in 357 Mag cases for the same reason.

I have to think that Smith is in full reevaluation mode as far as production is concerned after last Nov. Perhaps transition from sheer numbers to a more targeted and options offered approach?

I'll give them a bit more time. My needs are covered. I'm in the "want" stage now. I don't really want a snub 69. It's sister in 357, I'll certainly want to handle.

I got a reply back from Rachel at S&W about these pistols. Here is a direct copy and paste from the answering email:

Dear Customer,

They are being made and shipped to distributors regularly.

Regards, Rachel

So I guess we just have to keep a sharp eye out for them.
