I low-balled three house offers this year. We wanted every one of them. My fourth house's normal range offer was countered, I never got a counter from the three - they took a subsequent offer, and it looks like we got this house. House offers aren't face to face - it made it easier to 'lowball' - and we got our just reward - a more expensive house with higher interest rates. I could never lowball someone in person - it just seems so insulting. BTW, my lowball house offers were suggested by my real estate agent! When folks lowball me, I usually raise my price. Most times they are window shopping anyway. The OP got lucky. It reminds me of the wormy little guy who propositions every gal who enters the bar. He gets slapped a lot, but every once in a while...
