What have they done with the new gas cans???

Yeh..I bought one of the new 'human proof' one gallon gas-cans the other day...

Really I think you just need to be a liberal/progressive/nanny-state/greenpeacer with a degree in climate change to figure out how to make it pour gas...

Oh yes, don't you just love the care and concern for the planet, of course we can't have the odd fume wafting into the air we need a new gas can. You know the kind that will spill more fuel on the ground than ends up in the tank, what progress what genius. I hold on to my old gas cans like they were gold plated and will likely put them in my will. I love the planet as much as the next dirt worshiper but can't we be reasonable. I be the dope that designed that can never ever filled a tank with anything.
I like the planet, too, and try to do the right thing, but I take a perverse satisfaction in the fact that sometimes these newfangled things invented by tree-hugging BS artists spill more than the the originals. I am not necessarily averse to even adding a little spill, gratis. It will take more gasoline than I own to doom the planet, or even the species (ANY species).

On a positive note, just gas up your lawn equipment anyplace you don't want grass or weeds to grow.
If you have a weed poking up through a sidewalk, gas up there.
Your spillage will kill off unwanted growth, etc.
You're going to spill gas anyways, you might as well kill some weeds in the process.

Mayor Blumbug is a gas bag, close enough ;)

Mayor Bloomberg wants to require the new gas cans for Coca Cola products.

With the stupid new unvented cans leave one in the sun while you work for a while...

Even ones in the garage filled in the winter swell up when it gets warm.

How come we tolerate this stuff?

$19 delivered for a plastic spout? The gas cans don't cost that much.

I like the yardsale idea the best. I even found a behind the seat pre-lock style can at my local NAPA store on sale. It is shaped just right to fit behind the seat in a pickup (empty, of course).

I ain't buying no $19 plastic tube.

Was just on the news tonight that Blitz Inc. in Miami Ok., is shutting down after 46 years of making gas cans. July 1st they will shut down. The manager said they had filed for bankruptcy. There are 42 open lawsuits against them as of now, over the nozzle issues. Thanks EPA.

Aloha,

I just kept my old stle Evinrude/Johnson outboard motor gas cans. Holds
6 gallon with 1 pint of 2 stroke oil. Sold the boat, but kept the cans. I also have the spout that easily attaches to the fill hole.

I just remove the connector to the motor and easily drain the gas into the car, or a disposable plastic gallon and refuel the mower or anything else.

Here in Hawaii, at the different marinas, we have non ethanol gas especially for boats. I just go to the marina with my old gas cans to get gas.

I use the non ethanol boat gas to run our Honda lawn mower and emergency generators. I make it a habit to keep at least one full boat gas tank. Every 3 months, I put the boat gas into our vehicles. Runs great as it is Premium grade non ethanol.

I've picked up a few new gas cans for the "duration" and because I needed the extra capacity.

I favor the old galvanized cans myself- I've got an ancient one that must have been made before the Great War.

I picked up a 5 gallon pre-ban "safety" can for a deal while they were still available too. Likely one of the most expensive in my collection- still in the box too- just had to order a small metal hose for it.

The Cajunlawyer seems to have hit a real sore spot here. I have only one thing to say. I am glad a highly educated man like our barrister friend is as frustrated with these abominations as I am. Makes me feel a tiny bit better. :p (Not really.)

Let's have a show of hands, who here thinks man is powerful enough to destroy the planet?

I say no way and certainly not from gas can holocaust.

Has anyone not realized that they are dealing with gasoline? I bet some of you will put gas in a milk jug. The reason Blitz is filing for bankruptcy is that they have been sued by people that have been burned by their Blitz gas can exploding. This is caused from several different reasons like static electricity, nearby flame, etc. and the gas can not having a $.50 wire screen "flame arrestor" that stops the flame for entering the gas can and igniting the fuel inside. Their gas cans do not have a flame arrestor. I have had a gas can ignite while I was filling up my lawnmower. I was fortunate that my gas can was almost empty and the explosion did not burn me too bad, just one of my hands. It has been common knowledge in the industry that flame arrestors were necessary to prevent ignition of the fuel. Thats why some of the commercial gas cans are $50 vs. a Blitz can from Wally World for $10. I am one of the first to not want the government making up more rules and **** but the reason we have to deal with idiot government **** is that we do not self police. Meaning we do not use good judgement to do what is right and safe but instead companies like Blitz that are only out for the almighty dollar regardless of the safety of their customers. Would you pay an extra $.50 or a dollar for the gas can if you knew it was safe for your children to be around? I know some of you will say "I've used my old gas can for 20 years and never had a problem". That may be so but what about the man that was filling up a Blitz gas can with his daughter standing next to him when it exploded and burned her to death? (Dan Rather just did a story on it). Would you pay an extra dollar to keep that from happening? I know I would. So before any of you start spouting off about something, do a little research and know what your talking about. That's why we have to "deal" with the government and we look and sound like a bunch of redneck, gun toting idiots! I prefer to look and sound like an intelligent, law abiding American citizen willing to defend my constitutional rights from any individual and or government, foreign or domestic. Just my 2 cents worth.

Cajun I hope your post was to drum up folks for a class action suit against the gas can makers and the enviro-loons in DC. If so, I'm in.

I bought a 5 gal. plastic diesel can and made a flippin' mess the first time I used it. I had to install a vent hole, rig a plug for it and replace the nozzle with the one off the old can I was replacing. What junk!

Seriously, what the h*ll was wrong with the old stuff?

There's always this alternative...
