What have they done with the new gas cans???

I despise the newer ones, the ones without the small vent on the end opposite from the spout. If you leave them out in the sun, they blow up like a sheep that's eaten too much grass. I could never get the arrows lined up on the things, and just end up taking the whole spout off and pouring from straight from the container.

And they're not really "cans" any more, are they, since they're made from some sort of plastic stuff? They've morphed into eco-friendly-consumer-befuddling-red-and-yellow-container-things. My dogs think they're toys...I looked out the window one day to see my male Rottweiler trotting about the yard holding one in his mouth by the handle and my female was chasing him. He's somehow removed the spout (chewed it off) and 50:1 mix was sloshing out every step he took. I could only hope he hadn't swallowed any of the stuff, although he smelled like a leaf blower. He got a good hosing down. So now I sit them up on the woodpile where they can't reach them.

Did I mention I despise the things?

I just take the Nozzle off and use a Funnel.
The new Gas Can has got to be the most annoying thing to try to use.

I've been getting by with a couple of older gas cans, but needed a new Kerosene can last fall. I like to keep a few gallons of kerosene on hand during the winter in case the heat goes out.

The new kerosene can has the push and twist type nozzle. I tried to use it once to pour some into a quart-sized metal can that I keep inside, but ended up making a mess.

Since that one brief experiment, I've just taken the nozzle off and used a good old fashioned kerosene hand pump to get it out of the can. It's faster and I can actually put the nozzle where I want it before fuel starts coming out of it. I spill almost nothing with one of these.

Buy some kind of can that's not particularly produced for gasoline. Water jugs at the local Mega store look like gas cans without the EPA stuff, but are blue instead of red. A little plastic paint can fix that. Try a military surplus place, or maybe an old local hardware store may have something suitable.

This thread made me order 10 vent upgrades for my postban cans. The little yellow pushin vent with a snap lid. Less than 9 bucks delivered for all 10.

I am still on the lookout for those discarded cans, the nozzles are sometimes the old style.

New "gas cans" are worthless. "Utility cans" are not. Although expensive and only four gallons, this particular utility can has many useful features I like. Oh yeah, "not available for sale in California" should tell you something. ;)

So now we pay $45 for a $5 dollar gas can? Fortunately I stocked up on standard gas cans just before our government so benevolently decided to protect us from easy to use low cost gas cans.

If you are lucky enough to have a metal gas can and........
a metal flex spout with a cork washer and threaded cap ....
or the "GI" snap lock..........

you win a Kewpie Doll !!

Yep. Some call it progress. I call it over-regulation by incompetent bureaucrats. It would not be so bad if what they came up with actually worked, but as we all know, the fix only makes the problem much worse.

BTW the $45 gas can includes features that allow it to be firmly secured to a wall within a trailer or pickup bed. This may or may not be important to some, but when a cheap gas can spills fuel all over your expensive toys without your knowledge, $45 seems like cheap fire insurance to me. :o

Just filled my lawnmower today with one. Pop up the useless lever and run the spring loaded button with your finger. Worked ok in that situation but I can see the need for a spout flex extender.

VENTED!

Preban configuration once again.

Why does everything have to be a hassle these days?
