I buy heavy duty tool bags from Lowes or Home Depot. Less expensive and more sturdy than a lot of range bags, and usually have my handguns wrapped up in old dish towels. Since I'm in the construction business, when the bag gets old and dirty I re-purpose it to carry tools and get a new one to carry handguns or ammo.
What is a simple range bag to hold up to 4 or 5 handguns

I have an NRA bag that I got as a renewal token. Inside it fits 6 padded individual case that I got at Wal-Mart as long as they don't have longer than 6" barrels. Ammo is carried in a Cabela's plastic ammo can along with ear muffs, glasses, tools and such.

i always carry my toys in soft cases (each in their own with mags); and if its a short range trip i can put a couple in my backpack along with boxes of ammo, muffs, etc.
And on days i'm gonna spend more time at the range or am heading to the family property, i just use a duffle bag that can hold maybe 4-5 of my guns plus again ammo and accessories.
Both bags work well and both were in the $30-40 area; if they work for me i'd rather put more $$ into more ammo
