What is it? The slimy thing in raw eggs?

I've heard its called mucus membrane. I don't know if that's a correct term or not? but sounds good to me. BTW, I only remove what happens to come off when I'm removing the shell from hardboiled eggs.

I remember, years ago, when I was a kid still living at home on the farm asking my dad what that part of the egg was. . He told me that was the part that forms the chick when the egg is fertilized. . I sometimes take two spoons and remove that portion,

Some stores change the experation dates. The eggs are old.
