I get these flyers from Midway and they show all these primers in them and when I go to the site to take a look... they have been out and have a NO BACKORDER. I know they were out months? before the flyer was prepared. Turns me off of Midway.

I get really irritated with Midway too. Several times they've published sale fliers with scopes at really great prices I've called them on the day I received the flier only to discover they are out of stock. I've asked and the person on the phone has said they haven't had any of them for WEEKS... before they even published the flier! Now that is one hell of a sale, isn't it?

Hey guys, I have ten first year production S&W pre-model 29 .44 magnums for sale at $2.00 each. Of course if you contact me I will tell you they are out of stock! This should be referred to as a "Midway Sale" from now on!

So this lady goes to a butcher shop and orders a pound of hamburger. The shop owner says $3.

The lady says "my usual butcher shop has a sale for $2 a pound, but they're out."

So the butcher says, "Lady, when I'm out, it's on sale for a dollar."

Midway is like everyone else and has been out of primers to any real extent since late last year. I am not sure when they printed their flyer I just received but you are right that they list primers and powders that they have not had in stock for many months. They are like every one else they want to get their foot in the door so to speak and thats how they sell everything else they do have in stock. The shortage will be over gradually but don't expect it to happen anytime soon. Until then if you want sticker shock go out to some of the auction site that sell reloading components.

I was thinking the same thing. I have been a Midway customer for some time and must say they have one of the best customer service, shipping companies around. They really make a effort at customer service. Why get a flyer full of ammo, bullets, brass etc that they do not have nor have they had for a long time? I now there is lead time for putting out ads, but come on.

I am however getting miffed at the out of stock situation and not just reloading supplies. Everytime I ge a sale flyer, birthday, Holiday sale etc, there is always several items I want to add to my order but it is out of stock. If I back order and pay the additional shipping, there goes the sale price. I like to add several items to my wish list and order all at once.
Then I try to order from Natchez who usually have better prices but they also are out of stock and their web site is a PITA to use. Plus they tack on a $3 fee cause they can.

I wish Brownells sold more regular shooting items. $9 flat fee and no extra for out of stock.

I think we all need to adjust our thinking during times like this and not get too upset with anybody's marketing.

IMHE, If you want it and they got it and you want to pay their price you better do it. Similar conditions occurred during the Clinton administration, just not quite to this extent. This is definitely the tightest market I have seen in my 69 years. I think it will get better, but will definitely take some time. Pricing may remain at these levels or go higher.

IMO, our sport will just get more expensive.

I too really appreciate Brownell's policy of not charging extra shipping on backorders. Living in Alaska, my wife and I mail order the majority of things we buy other than food. Alaska is where a person begins to really appreciate the U.S. Mail, and mail order businesses that have good shipping policies. The U.S. Postal Service treats shipping to Alaska in a very fair manner with reasonable rates. UPS and Federal Express, however, treat Alaska like a third world country. I once had to buy an odd size and type of socket and I couldn't find one in town anywhere. The only place I could find that socket was in the Sears Craftsmen tool catalog. They refused to ship by mail. Anything that comes to Juneau (and most of Alaska) by UPS or Federal Express has to come by air. The socket was $2.50, and the UPS shipping was $19.00 plus some change. The shipping was the same up to a certain weight, so I ordered four of the same socket. In that way I had two to lose (I think Murphy practices on me), and one for each of my two tool kits (one in the garage, and one in the vehicle). After several of these experiences with shipping, Alaskans begin to know what rape victims feel like.

For this very reason my wife and I won't buy from any outfit that won't ship by U.S. Mail unless we simply can find something anywhere else.

I placed an order from them a couple weeks ago. Had one item backordered. The back ordered item came in stock before they got my first package shipped.

They still shipped em seperate and charged me shipping twice.

One of my very old friends/family runs the local gun shop. They have never seen it this bad. They have everything on order and never know what will come in on any certain day. At first it was AK's and ARs, now they have to many to sell. Now the problem is ammo. They have to hide the 5 boxes of 380 auto as thats all they have and want to be able to sell a box if someone buys a handgun. For a while they had no 380 auto or 38 special. Now they are forced to limit 9mm to one box per customer. Wal Mart gets ammo in every morning and they allow one person to buy it all . Could be 22lr or 9mm never know.$13-14 for 50 rds of 9mm fmj?? its nuts! I am lucky to find a brick of 22 lr. Is there a way to make bullets out the brass??

And the sad thing about it all, is we (maybe not folks here) have done it to ourselves buy "stocking up" based on antcipated actions that might happen with our new Hope and Change leadership.
