That is a beautiful 1911!

Thank you sir! I love the looks on peoples faces, when I take her to the range, and tell them its a Smith. Im very proud of this 1911.

Here it is. Scroll down to Smithnuts post. It's worth reading.

Very good read.

Anyway, please don't let all this jousting put you off. We disagree a lot, but most people here are courteous, and we have a lot of fun. I hope you stick around.

No worries.

To me the IL is really not about failure, which has happened, although not often.

The IL is simply FUGLY. It looks like a zit on an otherwise aesthetically pleasing firearm.

And the biggie, because the only reason for it is the sell out, which translates simply to "PRINCIPLE".

The IL is just another attempt to get under my skin.
I may not like it but, I'll live with it. I only have one with the lock anyway.

I can only wish that S&W had followed along the lines of Ruger. It's on the gun, but hidden under the grips, if you ever want to use it.

Mheideman, after all this, you better buy one with a lock!

Im definitely buying a new one. Could happen as early as the end of this month. You guys crack me up. Sure has been a fun welcome to the website.

Yup, even 21 (of which 3 weren't S&W IIRC) among a population of 150,000 (30,000 five times) is too many, it's a whopping 0.014%, I can see why you'd worry.

Do you know how many people in circumstances closely approximating mine have needed guns in their lifetimes? A lot fewer than 21, I'm sure. So I shouldn't own a gun, either, should I? Especially if it offends some libtard.

Let's see how the balance sheet looks.

Against the lock: 21(?) approximately spontaneous lockups out of jillions of uses.

For the lock: Oops.

You think that being sarcastic about Wyatt Earp's common-sense analysis is funny. I don't. I think that it betrays not the depth of your analysis, but your control of the entire process. I wouldn't brag about it, or display it publicly.

But that's just me. YMMV.

I'm going to make a stick-on lock decal so folks can upgrade the looks of their older Smith & Wesson revolvers.

Not bad! I haven't heard an idea with such commercial potential since the conception of pre-punctured prophylactics.

Yeah, I'm good at real money making ideas like that.

For the real hard core lock enthusiast I have a design for a retro-fitted lock so he can add lock baggage to his older Smith & Wesson revolvers.

I love my guns, as you can see in my signature, what you won't see, is a gun with a lock on it in that sig.
Smith@Wesson caved to the Clinton adminastration.
Opps, I better say you won't see a Smith revolver with a lock on it.

The IL has nothing to do with the Clinton Administration. The British owners who caved no longer own S&W. Both subjects have been beaten to death so I won't bother with the details.

Bob

Covered extremely well in Smithnut's explanation, previously linked to.

From one forum newbie to another....I asked "Why hate the lock" and damn near started a revolution. Read the archives, TONS of words written....

Yes, you nearly got the owner going with that one, but he recovered nicely.

Ha ha he he! That is the best post I have seen on the forum. That is really a good one, and I'm not being sarcastic either. It is plumb good.

If you need someone to advertise your product, count me in.

Sorry, I won't be putting one of those stickers on any of my guns. I'm concerned that they could detach under recoil and somehow become lodged in the lockwork, jamming the revolver. That, and the fear that an overzealous DA might crucify me in front of a jury for owning a handgun with a fake safety device. (Luckily my bestest guns all have the GENUINE locks.)

Ya know what? That lock ain't nothing for you to worry about. All that is,is a child protection lock which is prevelant on a lot of new guns now.You can either use it,or throw the damn thing away.I own a 686 that I bought used without the key,it's my favorite gun and I have many.
