What is the most unusual place you have ever seen where guns were sold?

For 32 years I ran a boat parts store/gun shop on the Olympic Peninsula
in Washington state. It was fun at times when a new customer walked
in for boat stuff and spotted the guns. I suppose I lost some business
but all in all it was OK.

Local Lawyer who is FFL and also specializes in custom 1911 builds and machine work. You take the gun to his office and he takes em home and does the work. Pick them back up at his giant downtown office. At first I felt strange walking into his giant law firm with a gun. But his lady staff don't even flinch, they are used to it. He's really a super cool guy.

He is doing a Colt Stainless Government 38 super for me as we speak. He's checkering the front strap and the trigger guard and replacing the hammer and trigger, and beaver tail. And bead blasting everything to match. This is his 4th build for me. And he's one of the cheapest FFL transfers I know of. And will order any gun or accessory for 10% over.

He's a older guy, probably in late 60's early 70's and a well known criminal lawyer, here in town.

And almost forgot. The Lebanon Tn Flea Market used to have a couple of booths that sold long guns.

There used to be a pharmacist in Green River, WY that had a combination drug store, liquor store and gun shop. He also had a drive up window. I used to joke that you could drive up to the window and get your guns, drugs and alcohol all in one stop without leaving your car. There was another guy in Ten Sleep, WY that sold guns out of his ice cream shop. He had quite an inventory too. Never knew for sure if it was a gun shop that sold ice cream or vice versa.

I'll start. I know a guy who is a pharmacist and a FFL dealer. For the last 25+ years,he has operated a combination gun shop/drugstore. :)

We have two of those here in my area. 1) was Harrells Pharmacy in Kingsville 2) Is Nichols Pharmacy here in town--also has a shooting rage indoor--but it aint air conditioned. Both are pharmacys/gun shops.

I also remember when: Winns, Western Auto, Kroger"s and the local True Value Hardware also sold guns. I recall, the local Five and Dime, sold only shotguns.

Rimrock AZ, the local NAPA service center. The owner is an FFL and a crack mechanic. Lately when I quote a new gun price on Davidson's he's consistently the lowest priced.

Great idea!

Wow what a great idea! I should have done that years ago when I had my drugstore. Back when 22 ammo was cheap, I could have offered a free box of 22 ammo with each prescription! Can we go back to 1979?

Many today may not know that Sears, JC Penny, Montgomery Wards, Western Auto, and many others were big gun dealers.
LL Bean  Think they still do in Maine
Abercrombie and Fitch! Was maybe the first "foremost outfitter"

All those were before my time, really.

I do remember my dad buying a 22 rifle from Service Merchandise in the early 90's. I was about 12 maybe. I used to like their glass front display that you could get close to the guns on the wall. They sold an all camo bolt action (don't remember the brand or model at this time) scope, mounts and all matched. This was a while before that was mainstream. It was cool.

These days gas stations and some mom and pop places that are hanging on. Stumbled on one that had a real life curmudgeon running it. Had hundreds of guns, old and new, on the walls, leaning up in corners, everywhere. You name it, he probably had it. Had some confederate bills I'd have like to had. Thousands of Indian artifacts he had found over the years. It was a real museum of a place.

The most unusual I've seen was a trophy/ engraving shop in Texas that had a a small room filled with 3 cases of various guns.

Many years back we had an auto parts store that was also a class III dealer. Ingrams and suppressors shared wall space with breaker bars and sockets.

Right now we have a pharmacist that is an FFL. He has more guns in his back room that all four pawn shops and Walmart combined.

"Small flower shop in Rankin, TX called "Guns & Roses"."

I used to drive through Rankin frequently. I don't remember much of anything being there other than some oilfield service-related businesses, and maybe a convenience store. One of the most desolate places in West Texas. Or at least close to it. Maybe the recent Permian Basin oil boom has revitalized it.

When I was a kid, there was an auto parts chain store (mainly tires, batteries, etc. somewhat like Pep Boys is today) called the "Checker Store" that sold guns and ammunition. I think that chain is long gone.

...many years ago I went with my family to visit my Grandfather's grave way down in far southern Colorado...just north of the New Mexico line...the closest civilization was Stonewall Colorado...and we stopped at the Picketwire Store there...it was much more rustic then...kind of dark inside...but I clearly remember a small glass case by the cash register full of mostly large caliber single action revolvers...appropriate for the area...I was young and had never seen a real handgun before...the images stuck with me...and is probably why I have several big bore single actions now...

Hiram's Gun and Liquor in El Cajon California in the early 90s. I'm sure it's still there. It's one of those places that will be there 100 years from now just sort of hanging on. The store was about the size of my Suburban..ok maybe two Suburbans. Not sure if they had gas pumps, but otherwise it was a tiny little stop and rob. They probably never got robbed though. They had a gun case about 10' long stuffed full of pistols, a few long guns leaning against the back window and a few shelves of ammo/targets/etc.

I'd have to admit to stopping there a few times on the way to the desert for a camping/shooting trip to pick up a few racks of cold ones, a few boxes of ammo and a bag of chips. About all I needed at that age.

Like others have mentioned, we had a pharmacist who also sold guns as well as an Ace Hardware that sold 'em too. Both are gone now though.

One gun store in town also sells & makes team jerseys (little league, pee wee football etc.), and does trophies, plaques, & engraving.

The other is a jewelry/gun store.
