I'm not a 40 caliber fan but I own several revolvers chambered for the 45 ACP. The real advantage of owning them is the ability to use cast bullet handloads in the Auto Rim brass. You can shoot a variety of cast bullets just as in the 45 Colt or 44 special or any other revolver ctg. and roll crimp bullets.

I use to wonder the same thing till I discovered EZ Moons.Super fast reloads and no policing empties. It's made 45acp my favorite revolver cartridge.

The whole point of .45 ACP revolvers is our country went into the Great War without enough production capacity to make all the 1911s needed for our troops. S&W and Colt did have production capacity to manufacture revolvers that fired the 45 ACP cartridge with the addition of moon clips so the 1917 revolvers were born.

It all comes together with the lightest big bore man stopper with manageable recoil, the 325 PD

The Israelis had some S&W revolvers chambered for 9MM in 1948-49, instead they adopted the Beretta 1951.
I have a 9MMP cylinder for my Old Model Ruger Blackhawk. Shoots lead bullets very well.
They're fun, that's the main thing.

RIMZ poly moon clips are what I use for my 625 JM. NO tools needed. Great for range use. Do have metal ones also. Bob

I really enjoy my 625 for many of the preceding reasons. Need is not a factor. Just ask my very understanding better half.

The unmodified, more modern (i.e; stronger) S&W .45ACP revolvers function just fine with 45 Super ammunition.
