I still stick to my original reply to the thread. The best firearm for self defense is the one you have on you. I also agree whole heatedly with Phil. The entire circumstance of where I'm going and why will dictate what pistol I will bring with me. Given that I can't stand carrying IWB...
Kahr P380: Can go with me just about anywhere. Slips into dress pants pocket, inside sport coat pocket, even in a leather Sneaky Pete holster. I can pocket two very small spare mags easily. 19 rounds of 95gr JHP's are available to me.
Sig P938: Can go with me in almost any situation where I don't have to tuck in my shirt and I need to be as discrete as possible. It rides in a DeSantis mini scabbard & two spare mags in a DeSantis mag carrier. 19 rounds of 124gr 9mm JHP's are available to me.
H&K VP9: In the late Fall, Winter, Early Spring when I am wearing sweatshirts, fleeces, or winter coats I can get away carrying a full size H&K VP9 & two spare mags. 46 rounds of 124gr JHP's are available to me.
The one pistol that I will carry most of the time when I can do it?
Glock 29 SF. Why? Because I find carrying a 4"-6" .357 Magnum revolver to be cumbersome. It's also more challenging to carry extra ammo in a speed loader. It's hard for me to reload a revolver quickly and effectively under stress. Full spec charged 10mm ammo out of the 3.77" barrel gives me similar ballistics to .357 Mag in an easier to carry & easier to reload package. Between the one round in the chamber, one mag in the pistol, and the two mags on my hip, I have 31 rounds of
Underwood 10mm at my disposal.
It's all about individual preferences. Give me a year. I might get the bug to carry that 4" - 6" S&W 686 plus.
