What is your Go to War Sidearm?

Last time I was in that predicament it was a Mdl 10 in a shoulder holster...

I would prefer to stay home and do.... whatever,,,

If not it will be my Gen 1 Glock 17... and a few other long guns.

Whatever Uncle allows me to carry. This is in addition to whatever rifle or machine gun/grenade launcher I'm carrying also.

In the past it's been
M1911A1
M9
M9 with KAC suppressor
G19
G17
SIG 226

Dear Combat_Diver, would you compare your experiences with the M1911A1 (brand/model?) with the G17 and G19? Thanks!

Have carried Colt and Remington Rand M1911A1s. I grew up on the 1911 carrying cocked and locked and will always take a reliable 1911 over a 9mm.

Thank you for your service.

Did you notice any reliability or accuracy issues, given the harsh environment of Afghanistan?

Haven't had any issues with the M1911A1. Did have issues with the M9 and CheckMate magazines during GW1. This was a known issue the rough finish on the inside and outside. Sand with the roughness would bind the follower inside the magazine. Uncle stipulated that way as a cost saving measure and has since been fixed.

Same thing I carry every day, a Glock 23 or 19.

There's a long list that would suffice but given a choice I'd pick My Sistema M1911A1. Dead nut reliable, will keep working even if it is covered in mud or if it rusts, proven stopping power.

Agree, my Glock 19 has never had a FTF. I also believe in the "End" there will only be 9mm available.

This thread has lasted long enough for me to change my pick.

Since I am far more likely to be the donor rather than the recipient of a “battlefield pick up” I figure I should provide something cool.

I’ll go with this New Service .45 Colt, a grizzled veteran of the New York State Troopers. I’ll leave a note in one of its cavernous chambers that says: Dear Conqueror, make sure to ask for .45 LONG COLT ammo when you resupply.

Oh, the derision he’ll face! I’ll have the last laugh!

I have a 9mm RIA Government 1911 and a military holster made in 1942, same year I was born. With 3 magazines and a K-Bar I guess that is all I would have on my belt, except for a canteen. Hopefully there would not be too much running around. And I would want more rank than L/Cpl since I finished college and law school afterwards, so put me in for an officer.

Thank you for posting this question. I don't currently have a go to war handgun. Your post has prompted me to get one. I EDC either a Glock 26 or a S&W 586 Carry comp 3". My go to war gun will be either a Glock 17 or 19.
