What is your Go to War Sidearm?

When discussing fighting dirty vs fighting with honor, we should probably differentiate between bar fights and such and fights to the death. Many here know from personal experience that when push comes to shove, things change very very quickly, and in a fight to the death situation, almost everyone will fight dirty eventually, just like any other animal will. Having said that, let's not forget that in every fight, strength/posture/weapons and most importantly skills are much more important than one's willingness to fight dirty. The vast majority of people possess very little of the above, and no amount of willingness to fight dirty will keep them from going down fast when facing a skilled, well-equipped opponent.

Having said that, I would like to say that I very much appreciate the fact that people with Forte's moral compass are here on this forum and out there. It's the kind of people you want as neightbors/buddies/friends.

He's the kind of opponent I want to face if at all possible.

Besides, even if the .40 S&W cartridge was dying, the fact remains that because most .40cal pistols can be easily converted to 9mm Luger or .357 SIG with nothing more than a drop-in conversion barrel, most .40s you can buy could be easily made to fire other cartridges as well!

When I bought my 9mm suppressor I had a Glock 27 and bought a threaded 9mm barrel for it.

Then I bought a Sig P365 and never thought about carrying a Glock again...I just like the Sig that much.

Traded the 27 for a 23, and bought another threaded 9mm barrel for it. The 23 is way more fun to shoot than the 27 ever was. I would have just bought a Glock 19, but I have too much 40 ammo.

My war was over for me 52 years ago...and I carried a Browning Hi Power for much of it...ammunition availability, 13 rounds in the magazine and a tried and true design. Wish I'd been able to bring it home. Also carried a 1911a1 for part of a tour and didn't fell under-gunned....(I was an Air Force Forward Air Controller, flying an O-1E Birddog for 5th Spl Forces...An Loc, lll Corps...lived in the B camp there.

But make no mistake, the Car15 that was my issue long gun was first and foremost, the gun I wanted in hand in anything but a shower point. The pistol was strictly a back up. Rod

226 Legion...posting the SSE as a space filler. To the conflict I bring the Legion, little lighter. They eat everything and I know how to shoot them fast and well.

Welcome home brother! FAC's have my utmost respect!

Given it some thought, and if I was to drag my crippled old butt into a "war" situation, I'd want to carry a practical and durable backup handgun that would be easy to maintain in the field. My Sig M11 A-1 would serve me well, as did the P229 I duty carried for 20 years; however, given the numbers of Glocks in common use, I'd have to choose a G19, simply because of the amount of compatable magazines and 9mm ammo. Don't hate me!

Same here but was in charge of SP people.....:D

Me, too. But they gave me a totally worn out Victory to carry. You had to be careful closing the cylinder. It sort of wobbled. I’m not 100% certain it would have fired if I’d needed to. I’d have preferred a 1911, but O-1’s took what the CPO passed out and kept their mouths shut if they were smart. :D

War weapon

Both ARGENTINE SYSTEMA's based on Colt Model 1927, rebuilt with colt parts and Nighthawk barrels. I have plenty of 45Acp in vacuum storage.

well, I have a model 29 4" for my underarm holster, my model 19 4" for my right hip and a j frame for iwb. I have enough ammo to fill many pockets, which will allow me to get to my 12 gauge shotguns which have plenty of OO buck available.
But, here's hoping politicians will prevent me from having to arm up like this in the middle of the continent.

My Go To War sidearm would not be a handgun. It would be my Uzi submachinegun, plus plenty of loaded magazines.

I haven't gone looking for trouble since they quit paying me to. If I had to, I keep a bug out bag with extra mags for the .45 Witness that lives in the nightstand. I was once accused by the former state HS wrestling champ of not "fighting fair" after I had him in cuffs. I told him the city didn't pay me to fight fair, it paid me to win, and today that meant taking his sorry self to jail. I did not accept his request that I remove the cuffs for a rematch.

One of my Hapkido instructors back in the day was a state LEO assigned to dangerous prisoner escort. When I asked him what Hapkido techniques he used to restrain unruly prisoners, he responded his favorite was the baton, used vigourously.

They do indeed eat everything. I remember I had some .45 reloads 200 LSWC that were really suitable for a 625 only. The 220 ate it all. An XD 45 had lots of issues and failed to chamber a lot of the rounds. 1911 did a little better. This is a good reason to have a Sig at the end. Glocks also seem to enjoy this but not so much with lead.

Glock 45 (9mm) with Streamlight TLR-8G and Evo-9 suppressor....
A very capable combination. How much velocity increase are you getting suppressed vs. loud and proud?
