Svengoolie fan, eh? Number one is Them. Two, can't remember. Three, War of the Worlds. Four, can't remember the name either, but giant flying mantis dies in Lincoln Tunnel. Five, Creature From the Black Lagoon. Oh, 2 is The Deadly Mantis.

I'm a big time 50's sci-fi monster movie fan, I've seen all of those..
They all share the classic traits like offering someone a cigarette, pouring them a drink, and especially pointing a loaded firearm at everybody with your finger on the trigger! :D

The original Creature Feature was one of the best - King Kong. I always wanted to see the first and uncut version. Some scenes were removed because they were so gory they were making some in the audience sick.

Matt Dillon made a great "Thing" before he became marshal of Dodge.

Return of the Creature is on Sven tonight. Last week I fell asleep right after Willard started. Gosh I'm getting old! My BIL has bought me some of the Svengoolie merchandise. I have a bobble head around here somewhere. I thump his head when he puts on a stupid movie. ( okay, they're all stupid but better than what else is on!)

I'm a child of the 50s. I grew up on this stuff along with comic books. Still love it today. :D
We had a local show when I was a kid that showed all these movies every Saturday. It was called Fantastic Features. The "Monster of Ceremonies" was called Sivad. He was played by station executive Watson Davis who simply spelled his last name backwards. Great show! I watched every week. :D

BTW: ScreenPix shows some of these old horror movies from time to time. In just a little while I'm going to watch "IT! The Terror from Beyond Space!" ;)

I remember one about aliens drilling into the back of people's necks...it was scary because it started with someone being woke up by a glowing on the horizon, went to check it out and found out about the activities, then I think in the end it started over like groundhog day.

I believe that was Invaders from Mars.

The 80's remake was pretty good too.

My mom took me to see House On Haunted Hill, the original, when I was a kid. Terrified me! I remember peeking through my fingers to watch it. I didn't watch a horror movie for decades afterwards. I must have been five about the time.

Amazing how they could make such an effective flick without all the gore! That movie will stop your heart...

Not a movie but one that spooked me was a Twilight Zone from the 60's with William Shatner on an airliner and a gremlin was pulling up one of the engine covers. In one scene Shatner had closed the window cover because he thought he was seeing things. After awhile he pulled it open and the gremlin had it's face against the window... Let me tell ya I darn near wet my knickers!

My dad loved the sci-fi movies from the beginning. I was born in 1946 and dad started taking me to the movies in 1950. Along with Disney's "Treasure Island" came "Destination Moon", "The Day the Earth Stood still", and "Thing From Another World". That was pretty advanced "material" for a five year old ! Then we had "The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms", "War of the Worlds", "When World's Collide" and "THEM" when I was 6 to 7. HOLY COW !! - "THEM" scared the $#$#! out of me. I was HOOKED ! We lived in Washington D.C. and the "Evening Star" was our newspaper. Every Thursday was the BIG movie section with all the BIG adds for the new movies. I couldn't wait to get to it and prepare my "pitch" for what movie I might get him to take me to. If it was pirates, flying saucers, dinosaurs, or a giant bug, I knew I had a lock on it :) Westerns of course were also a staple. "The Last Hunt" and "Escape from Fort Bravo" were particularly memorable. We saw "The Crimson Pirate" with Burt Lancaster and LOVED IT ! I actually talked my dad into going back the NEXT night to see it AGAIN ! ..... I think HE really wanted to also :) [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izws4RmQUBo&ab_channel=RottenTomatoesClassicTrailers[/ame]

While not really a creature feature, except in a limited way, perhaps the most suspenseful movie of the 50s was "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." While it was really a thinly veiled propaganda piece about the Red Menace, it had plenty of thrills, especially at the end. Beware the Pod People!
