What music would you like at your memorial service???

I hadn't really given it a lot of thought yet - I know anything can happen at anytime, but I suppose I'm in denial since my family is fairly long-lived and I figured I have another 25 years or more to go.

I do know (and if this grosses anyone out I apologize in advance) after whatever organs can be donated to help someone else live a longer or better life, I want to donate my brain to head trauma research (I've had more concussions that can be counted on one hand) and the rest to a medical school to help some future doctor, who might cure cancer or somesuch.

No formal service necessary. If the family wants to get together that's fine, and knowing my family, it'll be more of an excuse to create and consume massive quantities of food and reminisce. It certainly won't be a somber affair. At least not for more than ten minutes.

When you think of your own funeral, just remember it's about you, but not for you. It's for your friends and loved ones, to remember you and tell tales.(maybe tall ones) Traditional hymns, Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, maybe another. I'd like a reception after the service, not in a chapel. With modest alcohol use, and a few reflective songs. Never too Late/Steppenwolf, Wild Horses/Rolling Stones, Sound of Silence/S&G, Yesterday/Beatles, Wind Cries Mary/Jimi Hendrix, Let it Be/Beatles, Whiter Shade of Pale/Procol Harum. I could name plenty of others

I have given some rather serious thought about these 2 songs in the past:

I did this several years ago for my husband's memorial service. Some of the songs I included have been mentioned, One Tin Soldier, Sound of Silence, I Did It My Way.

The one "live" song was my daughter singing Amazing Grace.
This version sung by an young woman with a beautiful soprano voice.
I would love her to do it again for my service.

I would like Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd played. But I know My Wife would not do it and opt for some religious Music.

I have said over and over again i want Kansas - Dust in the Wind.

For my wife, at my funeral, I would like played: "In My Life" by The Beatles.

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

In my life I love you more

I just looked at my resume and compared it to John's.... I got some work to do!

Very impressive!

I'd like a traditional bagpipe version of Amazing grace played at the beginning. A traditional service, with the reminiscing of those in attendance. Then I want it to loosen up, as they close the service, I'd like this Dropkick Murphy's verison of Amazing Grace

Afterwards I want a big BBQ with a ton of music and smiles! Just like I was throwing the big bash myself.
