My search skills are weak. Im sure there are countless threads on this topic.. I think we all can agree on not having to have the highest priced scoped on the 15-22 is fine. Really there isnt a sense for it unless its pulling double duty with its big twin brother.. Im looking for something that will allow me to shoot out to about 100yrds.. Ive seen the sight/magnifier combo and it looks very appealing.. Id really like to know where you guys are getting the cheaper, or knock off sights from.. I like the idea of an eotech or an acog, but in the cheaper variety... I bought an NC star scope a few years back, and for the money it was pretty decent...

Take a look at http://www.primaryarms.com. They have great optics at good prices I have 2 of their multi reticle m4 red dots, 1 on my 15-22, and the other on my troy 5.56. I also use their deluxe 3x magnifier. They sell out quick, so if you see them in stock I would not hesitate to order.

Question I had about the magnifiers, I think I've seen a picture of them also being used with open style red dot sights as well. Are the magnifiers like universal and fit both tubular red dots as well as open style red dots? Are the red dot sights and magnifiers set at a standard height that should line up together out the box, or do you have to get risers and experiment to get them to line up?

Also, is there like a standard distance that the magnifier should be from the red dot or do you just mount it directly behind it?

Most red dot and magnifier mounts are set up at the same height. Most are made to co-witness with iron sights. There are different height options available, but its pretty easy to figure out. Magnifiers can be used with either the tube style red dots, or the open type like eotechs. The distance the magnifier is from the red dot is not that critical. I usually try to get mine within an inch of the red dot. I would recommend mounting the magnifier in a swivel mount so that it can be moved to the side when you don't want to use it. It's just easier than removing it.

I am using the NC Star Mark III and yes I already know that it is a very cheap scope but then this 15-22 is no tack driver. The NC Star has worked fine for me and I like the compact size. Any red dots no matter what size cover too much target ( gophers ) area for me.

Bushnell TRS25.

I'm not one for parking on a bench trying to get tiny groups at 100 yds. I like to hold it, shoot it, and try to do as much damage as I can to fake bad guys. :) So, the little red dot works great for my purposes, but YMMV.

I think one mistake people make is to try to set up one rifle to "do it all". Then it ends up doing nothing particularly well. So, good for you for specifying! :)

I run an Aimpoint H-1 with a Daniel Defense lower 1/3 mount, Knights Armament extra battery cover and TangoDown IO micro-cover. Back-ups are Daniel Defense fixed sights with Trijicon night sights installed (in case my micro dies at night while im in a big firefight against Zombies) :)

I want either the Bushnell TRS-25 or the Primary Arms micro dot. I just want to have absolute co-witness with whatever I get.

Weaver 1-3x20. Awesome little scope for the $, picked it up on sale at midway. Very light in keeping with the 15-22 lightweight theme.

I went to Cabelas last week and they had a CP Tactical red/green dot sight that was normally $75 for $25, figured I wouldnt be out that much for the price. Turned out to be a really good buy!!

C-More slide-ride w/8MOA dot.

8 MOA for 100 yard shooting? That seems a bit large to me.

For 100 yards, I like the 1-4 scopes. Some people are good with a magnified red dot and that's a solution also. Just not something I would personally do. I run a Primary Arms 30MM red dot on one of my ARs and it's a great budget optic. Holds zero and made well. For longer distance, I don't think you can beat the Primary Arms 1-4 mentioned above. 1x for close range shooting and 4x when you want to reach out. Not too heavy, good clear glass and comes with outstanding customer service if you need it.

I have utg 4" compact red dot and enjoy plinking with it, they do have UTG flip to side 3x magnifier also not to pricey, think you can get both for about $120
Amazon.com: UTG 4-Inch Compact ITA Red/Green Circle Dot Sight with Integral QD Picatinny Mount: Sports & Outdoors@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41rrugaynuL.@@AMEPARAM@@41rrugaynuL

I did have to put this on a 1/2" riser to cowittness with irons, they make others that would not need the riser. You can find specs on leapers.com for the UTG sights.

I've tried 2 combinations so far. One is the NC Star Mark III 3-9X42 with a Burris Fast Fire II red dot. The second is an EoTech EXPS2-0 with a (primary arms) 3x magnifier. I like the EoTech set up better, but the thing costs more than the rifle. I have had the NC Star for a few years now and used it on my Stag AR & my M&P15-22. I really like the Burris Fast Fire II red dot as I like shooting with both eyes open; this is also why I like the EoTech.

Using a Mepro 21 that I got on sale awhile back with the bullseye reticle, no batteries needed.

I like that setup.. How far out can you see with that?

I've got quite a few setups, all on quick release. I like to move things around. The Acog is nice for shorter stuff, 1-4x out to 100 yards or so and then everything from a 2.5-10x to a 4-14x FFP to a 10-40x depending on what distances I'm dealing with. The older I get, the more I need that 10-40x just to see past the end of my barrel!

The 1-4x Optisan Mamba from SWFA is an affordable 1-4x that comes with a mount. It is both red and green dot.

There is a "green fiber optic" acog clone available on Amazon.com for under $100 that is a great value, IMOHO. At least good enough for a 15-22, works well on an AR-15 as well.
