I have a 15-22p and not at all familiar with the AR genre

What parts made for mil-spec (is that what it's called?) ARs can be put in/on the 15-22p?

Things like grips, trigger groups, charging handle, magwell grips, whatever.
Also curious about iron sights or those flip up styles- will they work on the 15-22p? Is there a certain height to look out for?

Ar grips, FCG(triggers) magpul mbus, any ar sights will work. Charging handle will not work from an Ar. Plinker tactical and NDZ makes M&P 15-22 specific charging handles. If this is the 15-22p(pistol) you cannot add a vertical grip but from what I hear you can use the Magpul angled foregrip. Post some pics of your 15-22p. Everyone here loves pics. Be careful if you change the grip, there are 2 springs and detent pins that are easily lost if you aren't careful.

You can indeed add a VFG... You just need to pay the $5 tax stamp. There is no difference in adding the AFG or the VFG, they BOTH require the stamp.

Don't add it and post a picture prior to your receiving the stamp... You could be prosecuted or fined. Definitely not worth not paying the $5. Of course you would have to wait the 3 to 6 months before you can actually put it on until the stamp comes back.

Know the law... "I didn't know" is not an excuse when it comes to federal law.

Where does one even give an m&p 15-22p??? Or any other ar type pistol?? Sorry new to the gun world. Please don't shoot! Lol

Like AR-Getsome said, just about all of the AR15 stock and aftermarket parts will work. But not the charging handle and latches, safety selectors, some of the mag catches etc.

Jondjames, S&W uses to make a pistol version of the 15-22, but not anymore.

ATF says that adding a VERTICAL GRIP to a pistol makes the gun fall into the "Any Other Weapon (AOW)" category and require registration as an NFA weapon (see Adding a Vertical Fore Grip to a Handgun | ATF). They also state that it would require a $200 tax stamp for you to do it on a Form 1. You could send it to a licensed 07/02 FFL/SOT manufacturer who could make it into an AOW and then transfer it back to you on an ATF Form 4 for the $5 tax (but you know the SOT is not doing this for free, so you would probably be out the same amount of money).

However, if you read the ATF response to Question #7 in this letter (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0qyloA48O3XZWFjYjMwYTMtYTg1MC00NzVhLWI3NmMtZDRiNTMzNzdhMzUx/edit?hl=en&pli=1) about adding a Magpul Angled Fore Grip (AFG) to an AR pistol, they say it is OK to do so without it becoming an AOW.

Already put up a pic in the pic thread. Looks to me the previous owner put on a new grip, and it's got rail covers that work well as a place to hold. Not interested in a vertical foregrip even if it didn't require jumping hoops.

Will the entire top part fit onto another AR lower receiver (one that was registered as a pistol)? Just curious if that's how faithful to the AR design these guns were.

Fire Control Group is the same thing as trigger groups? So if I wanted to improve the trigger quality of my 15-22p, I would have to buy one of these FCG's and swap it in?

The spacing of the take down pins and a couple of other things will not allow you to swap uppers between the 15-22 and the AR15

As far as I know, just about all of the aftermarket FCG for the AR15 will work in the 15-22.

Wouldn't the FCGs made for ARs come with heavier hammer springs since they're intended for centerfire rounds?

No they don't. You can drop any AR trigger into the 15-22 lower and it will work. I use Geissele Super 3-Gun triggers in my 15-22s because I use them for speed shooting. The S3G trigger shows a pull of 2.5# when used in the 15-22.

I forgot to add, Simple Weapons Solutions has the ambi selector and other cool accessories for the 15-22 as the AR one does not work on the 15-22. Which answers your other question. No you cannot swap the upper or lower onto an AR upper or lower because the 15-22 is wider than a standard AR.

The AR ambi safety selector DOES work. I have the 60 degree Noveske STS Magpul selector on my 15-22. Unless you're talking about the SWS one specifically.

Damn! You win... I guess I was misinformed. Thanks for the info.

Though, if it has an overall length of 26", it is legal to put a VFG on it because it is classified as an AOW. The overall length of the 15-22P is only 15"... so adding another 11" to it would probably not be worth it just to add a VFG.

I would love to see a 15-22P with a 7" handguard and a Flaming Pig or a snub nose suppressor that just slightly extended past the end of the handguard. With no receiver extension, that would be a sweet weapon.

Shame they discontinued them.
