What revolver have you had the longest?

This 17- no dash. I bought it for $60 in April, 1971 after hearing an ad on "Tradeo on the Radio" in Missoula, MT as I was leaving U of M for the first time as a brand new graduate. I've shot it a gazallion times. It's accounted for 1000s of Ground Squirrels.

Sent it back to S&W for a mechanical refurb a few years ago. We've been thru a lot together.

my earliest gun, that i still have is model 15 that i got for christmas in 1966. first handgun i had was a high standard sentinel with a horrible trigger.

I grew up shooting shotguns. My dad never had a handgun. As soon as I turned 21 (30 years ago , 1982) I went revolver shopping. I narrowed my choice to either a new Ruger Super Single Six .22 convertible or a good condition used Colt .22 of some kind. I laid down the $265 for the stainless 6.5" Ruger and am glad I did. Fortunately I had the sense to realize a .22 could teach me more about how to shoot a handgun than a centerfire could considering the price of ammunition and lack of recoil. When short on rent money, I had that gun in hock at the pawn shop twice and thankfully I worked hard to scrape up the high interest rate. I've killed so many varmints, birds, targets and such with it over the years. It's balance is superlative, accuracy phenomenal and reliability unquestioned. What a classic. I'll never sell it. Tiny targets at long range don't stand a chance. CW

One day in 1963 my Dad came home with what he called a "little 22". I wanted a Colt Single Action, but this was a fine choice...

I added the ivory because the original wood stocks got pretty worn.

The revolver I've had longest is an "Old Model" Ruger Blackhawk .357.
It has a six inch barrel standard wood grips and more blue wear now
than when I bought it used in 1979.
It was the first revolver I bought.

Used it for NRA Hunter's Pistol Silhouette matches, small game hunting, and as a house gun for a while. For house gun duties I
loaded it with Blazer aluminum cased .357 158 grain hollowpoints.
For hunting and plinking, my .38 Special reloads with 158 grain LSWCs.
Very accurate and easy to carry in the woods.

Second revolver I bought was a H&R 926 nine shot break top.
I am giving that gun to my daughter this weekend.

A 7 1/2 inch Colt New Service in .45 Colt, from Frank's Sport Shop in Decatur, Illinois, about 1974. I was 15 so my Dad had to buy it.

Two years later a guy tried to force his way into the house when I was home alone. I stuck that long Colt in his face and cocked it for effect. For a second all that moved in the universe were his eyes following those 255 grain bullets as they rotated and stopped.

He left without further drama and I called the cops. I remember a burly Decatur cop hefting that .45 and laughing. "Boy", he said, "if you'da dropped the hammer on this thing, his head would be in the street."

I've pointed other guns at lots of people over the years, but the first time is always special. I still have that Colt, and shoot it every now and then.

Thanks for sharing all your 'old ones'.

The first on my 1959 NYS PP was/is Iver Johnson hammerless, .32 S&W, 5-shot, Nickel and MOP, in orig chamois pouch. Used to shoot it with buckshot/round ball reloads over a couple of pinches of 3FFF. Thanks to you fellows, gave it a slight 'oil change' just now.

Bought new by maternal step grandfather. Said he carried it on his bicycle around 1900 to ward off dogs.

Regards,

Dyson

Colt SAA 45 bought as a junker in 1965. Factory letter stated gun was shipped to the Consolidated Mining Co.in 1906. The famous Copper Queen Mine. Returned to factory for a new cyl., new bbl.,new hammer, and full nickle plate. Paid $75 for that clunk and put another $150 in it.I will die with this gun. Big Larry

revolver

What revolver do you own that has been with you thru out your life. The one you have used thru life and even with you in harms way. Any history? And you still have it! :D

either a s&w model 18 or a model 13; bought them both around the same time which was over 20 yrs. ago. still have them; paid $250 for the 18 and $190 for the 13 both mint at purchase. the 13 is a great carry/hiking/travel gun in a shoulder holster: both irreplaceable.

Center fire my model 36 I bought used from my watch commander in 1973. rimfire is my H&R model 922 bought new for $68 in 1978.

OK, well im farly new to the gun world, so my first only goes back 6 years. But history... has that in spades!!

its my first year K53 jet. It was my dads, and he had been shooting the barrel off it sence the early 60's!! Not only is it my first, but it will be the most special becouse it was the only one that dad gave me personaly. We lost him a few months ago, and I have sence got all his guns.. but this one he gave me 6 years ago when I first got my permit. It will never be sold by me!!!

Not my first revolver but my first S&W, a 28-2 I bought new in Oct 1966
and still have. I have owned it longer than any other hand gun and will
never part with it. Nothing really dramatic to report but the sight of it
in a constantly worn open belt holster kept a couple of oversized
alcoholic bullies at a comfortable distance in a remote deer camp many
years ago I will always believe.

Ruger .357 Blackhawk Purchased in 1978 From Montgomery Wards,Had to get My Dad to buy it cause I didn't turn 21 till 1980,I still have the Gun & Original Box & Papers.

my 66 no dash 2 1/2" has been with me since i was old enough to buy a gun. 21 years ago in aug. it will be with me for at least another 21 years. may even have it burried with me... he, he, he!

The oldest in my family that I bought is a Model 58 I bought with my separation money in 1972. My brother has it now.

Oldest I have retained is my 1976 Super Blackhawk. First big game kill, lots of snakes, under the pillow during riots and once when someone took a serious dislike to me.

I bought my first revolver, a 2 1/2" bbl. Mod 19 the day after the TMI accident in 1979. There was a lot of talk about possible evacuations and although disasters bring out the best in people, they also bring out the worst in people. I wanted a powerful gun that could be easily accessed while driving a vehicle. Unfortunately, I sold it a few years later.

My 2nd S&W revolver, I bought sometime in the early or mid 1980s. It's a Mod 13 3" heavy barrel. I still have that one ;)

My dad bought this Ruger Single Six back in 1968. It started out life with a 5-1/2" barrel. I had it cut down to 4-5/8" somewhere along the line, but the gunsmith that did the work, just butchered it. A couple of years ago I found the 9-1/2" barrel and had that installed. This Ruger has traveled many a mile with me over the years and it has many more to go!
