Sunday is my birthday and I'm planning to buy a fifth of liquor.

Rather than my usual vodka or Irish whiskey, I've decided to get something different.

I'm looking for a decent scotch, but not excessively expensive.

Any suggestions?

I dont really care for scotch. BUT Woodford Reserve or their Double oak is great. OR Eagle Rare From Buffalo Trace. Just to name a few outstanding drinks that I have sitting in the cabinets right now. Or for something different try Bourbon Creme from Buffalo trace also.

P.S. I am not affiliated with either distilleries but the tours from both are awesome. Liquor is great to.

Here are a couple I recently tried. Between the two I prefer the Abelour and it isn't terribly expensive.

I bought the A'BUNADH last year to open in 2019 for my 60th birthday. It wasn't cheap but you're only 60 once.

Scotch?? BLEH!!!

What you need is SOUTHERN COMFORT.

Be ABSOLUTELY SURE you drink the ENTIRE fifth in one go. Trust me, you'll have ZERO HANGOVER and feel like a God!! :D

PS: If it's not painfully obvious, this is a joke. Taking this advice will result in "the turrible suffrins" as they say!

Rewards is my choice. Delicious flavor, basement temperature for me. In fact, I'm due for a bottle myself, 3 weeks past my B-day.

Happy Birthday!

Reminds me of a story, from deer camp some 20 years ago. I caught a swig from a SC bottle right at the end of the bottle. Being my first taste of it, and enjoying it like I did. I bought my own bottle next time out. The others left me pretty much the whole bottle, of which I consumed about a pint off that night around the fire. Before stumbling back to my camper, I took that one swig that was too much.

I left the remainder of the bottle in the trees or, for some ther fool to drink. Never touched another drop of it since. Whew that was a rough hunt the morning. I paid the piper.

Have you tried Kesslers? It's smooooth as silk. [emoji14]

Just kidding. Depending on what you like for flavors (because I assume your attempting to enjoy this bottle, not just swig it down). Glenmorangie for sure. Great whisky. 12 yrs old and sweet as wine.

How old will you be?

Since you are just getting into scotch, here are my standard recommendations for “beginners” (no offense). All are high-quality reasonably priced (below $60) representative single malts:

Glenmorangie 10 (basic highland malt, best selling single malt in Scotland itself)

Balvenie 12 Doublewood (Speyside malt with sherry cask finish)

Highland Park 12 (island malt, some peat, some sherry casks, considered by many the best balanced scotch of all)

Bowmore 12 (peated Islay malt, smoky but very approachable)

My Scotch drinking days are behind me, but if I were buy a jug of Scotch whiskey today I would buy J&B. It is a smooth blend that goes down good neat, on the rocks, or with a splash of soda or water. A middling price point and a solid beverage. It's not Chivas Royal Salute, but few Scotches are.

Another vote for Aberlour. It and Longmorn are among the most drinkable spirits in existence. If you want something a bit more challenging but still very drinkable the Bowmore is the best of the Islay whiskies (Laphroaig and Lagavulin are .....errr......rather robust and not for newbies IMHO).

What is the single malt scotch that Frank receives or gives in BLUE BLOODS? It is packaged in what appears to be a white paper tube. My guess is it is in the high dollar class.

I can drink Scoth.:D

But my favourit uisgue beatha is still Jack Danieks number 7.

I'm not a scotch drinker so I can't make any suggestions but I would like to wish you a Happy Birthday.:)
